To figure this problem out you must first add 5 to both sides. Not -5 but positive 5. You always use the oppisite of the number you are adding to both sides in this case is -5. So the oppisite of -5 is positive 5. Take positive 5 and add it to -5 which equals 0. So those are canceled out now. Now take positive 5 and add it to 8. That would equal 13. You are now finished. Y=13. Just follow this method everytime you have a problem like that and you wil answer it correct!
