5^(-2) would be typed in as:-
5 ^ - 2 =

Answer is 0.04

There a key marked either (-) or +/- : it depends on your model. Either of these makes a number negative. If the calculator has trouble accepting that (I haven't owned one of those in years), enter it as 10 EXP (-) 3

ok use the standard form (exp) button and before you type in the number for the power just press the - button
