The current result of drugs being illegal is it creates a blackmarket that breeds crime and violence, yet people are ok with this. Why?

Wouldn't it be far simpler to just...educate people about drugs? Maybe one reason people currently take illegal drugs is because its taboo. Perhaps another reason is because they are uneducated as to the effects and addiction some drugs may have?
If people truly feel society would collapse if all drugs were legalized, then I guess we never had much of a society.

"OK you legalize them, then what price are you going to sell them at, now if one can't stomp up his dole money for that price hes gonna get them cheaper on the black market yeah.
Fags are legal but it ain't stopped a hugh black in smuggling them.
Sorry dude its a no brainer."
Why would there be a black market if they were legal? It would be a regular market, so there wouldn't smuggling.
You're right, it is a no brainer.
Someone did make a good point about Corporatism, which the current medical system is a good example of what would happen if drugs were legalized. It also gives a good reason to have a Universal Healthcare system, which then drugs being illegal would have reason.

One thing that you should remember, if illicit and addictive drugs are legalized, it will not be the local drop-out on the corner by the Crispy Creme who will be the pusher, it will be a multi-national corporation with a nation-wide infrastructure and all the manipulative psychological powers of Madison Avenue to create even more of a demand for them than there is now.
Look at the damage that over-consumption is doing to our country economically, environmentally and health-wise. Every two years, we already see the television inundated with commercials showing Olympic athletes eating at McDonald's and every night you see at least five advertisements hinting that you have some rare and debilitating disease that can only be cured by this pill, see our ad in Prevention Magazine. Oh, and how about the different types of pills that will cure depression, and the only side effect is suicidal tendencies?
Legalization is not the panacea that we are often led to believe.

We've been brainwashed into thinking all street drugs are bad. They aren't any more dangerous then what you can get a Rx for. People are responsible for their actions, our laws prove that. If someone is high on crack (for example) and rob a store or whatever, they should suffer the consequences of their actions....robbing. Not getting high. Just like getting drunk. It's fine to get drunk, as long as you don't drive or break any laws. While I do think some drugs should be illegal, some should not. Marijuana, for example should be legal.

I'm going to sum up my response with 2 quotes:
"You want to get rid of all the drug crime in the country? Fine, scrap all the drug laws then" - Ron Paul
"I think drugs have done some good in society, yeah like if you don't think drugs have done no good in society, go home and all your records and what not, throw them away, because all those musicians that made all that great music, rrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaalllly ******* high on drugs" -George Carlin

Because to many people are scared to carry a gun around with them all the time to shoot and kill the folks that inevitably would be running around wasted bugging them. Don't get me wrong I drink like a fish and like to do drugs now and then but, they actually do me and I usually f**ck up and get my @ss stomped. I have a low tolerence for bullsh!t so, I probably would have shot somebody that was acting like I was. That is way I try to stay away from drugs and they should probably remain illegal!

Illegal drugs are a lucrative business for many people including money laundering banks and some third world countries. Big Pharmaceutical companies don't want them legal because could cut into their antidepressant market.
People are okay with this because money controls the world. Legalizing it wouldn't make it socially acceptable, alcohol and smoking are legal but not socially acceptable to smoke in certain places or drive drunk. They have rules regarding use. Drugs could be controlled in the same manner.

Alcohol and tobacco are the worst drugs you can do, and they are legal. This fact completely destroys the drugs are bad argument for making drugs illegal. I think most conservatives are against drugs like Marijuana because they know that legalization of marijuana would result in a huge loss to their tobacco industry and pharmaceutical industry stocks.
You can grow good marijuana in your backyard. The alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceutical companies, law enforcement agencies, prison guards, and a huge host of others would lose huge amounts of money.

Legalizing it would be making it socially acceptable.
And it is the drugs that create crime and violence, not the illegality.
If a crackhead doesn't have the money for his crack, he's going to steal to get it. It doesn't matter whether he is stealing that money to buy from rite aid or a crack dealer, he's still stealing.
