Darth,
I do think Bob Dylan is a poet and lyrical genius. And I love his musicianship AND his voice. I think his voice suits his songs and it is a style... I think he is a living legend and an icon. I love songs from all through his career - some of my favorites in no particular order:
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
Gotta Serve Somebody
Corinna, Corinna
Positively 4th Street
The Hurricane
Tangled Up In Blue
All Along The Watchtower
Mr. Tambourine Man
Sylvio
Just Like A Woman
Thunder On The Mountain
Beyond The Horizon
Nettie Moore
The last two are from his latest CD 'Modern Times' which is incredible... he said it's the best group of musicians he has ever played with... I'd say that is debatable, but they do an amazing job.

Then the question could desire to be, what defines a genius? in case you have been to ask a random team of a hundred knowledgeable human beings and rock song followers what Dylan's excellent music is, you will get 20 or extra distinctive solutions. With maximum of Dylan's friends, the "ultimate music" question is in many circumstances a no-brainer as they're often properly-known for one or 2 great songs. Dylan has some dozen "excellent songs." once you stand that some distance above maximum human beings of your friends in any form of resourceful undertaking, i might say you qualify as a genius.

Well, you can't fault his ability for songwriting, but there are some where I just don't like the way his voice sounds.
For some of his songs, I've only heard covers.
My favourites, in no particular order :~
Desolation Row {Live at the Isle of Wight}
All Along the Watchtower {original & Jimi Hendrix}
One More Cup of Coffee {Robert Plant}
Just Like A Woman {original & Stevie Nicks}
Knockin' On Heaven's Door {original, Eric Clapton, Dunblane}
My knowledge of Bob is a little limited!

Shame on you!! How can you leave out "Sara" from Desire???
- Just kidding, Darth!! - I use to wake-up to that album, everyday.
- Unfortunately, there is no way in Heck, I could pick his best songs. His catalogue and phases are just SO overwhelming. The shocking change to electric on Highway 61 (before my time, but I heard he was heavily criticized for this) and all the while -- HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING.
- The couple of movies, I've seen, are truly inspiring. I always knew him as one of the great Poets, but I had no idea how much Guts this young Jewish-Folk singer had.
- He actually transcends all of the other bands that I have always preferred, musically -- because his Lyrics are more important...IMHO

A Hard Rain Gonna Fall - Great song for the times. Young white guy from the midwest writes a song that is completey in tune with the world's injustices during the 60's.

Darh Man,you scared up some spooks...I hated the dude when I was a whippersnapper...now I got close to all..the way he spoke to me was like Blake...and the Groove he hustled with it all...there are plenty of records of his that deem justification of musical and lyrical acclaim and, Man..I am without speech now, I believe from his last 3 albums...I want to be...like ..him. A face......of no consequence only words..what would we do..in grains of sand..blown away..as usual.
