So then I have to ask: what is the allure - personally - for you or for me? What do you/I get out of it, what is the benefit to you/me, from participating here? How come it can become addictive? What is the high we get from participation?
Might it be that the 'high' is the 'confirmation' we give to ourselves, that we temporarily feel important or that our life has meaning, because we are able to answer other people's questions?

Actually that happened to me last night! I told them how important it makes me feel to be able to help those who have all of these deep antagonizing questions....I got the blank stare and the uncomfortable silence

I have mentioned it to exactly 1 friend who looked at me like I was INSANE. I have never brought it up to anyone else since.
However, as a sidenote, that same friend that thought I was insane...recently confided that Y!A is her new addiction...as I told her it would be!

my mom still doesnt really get what the internet is all about so i dont even bother trying to explain it to her.

Yes, my hubby thinks I'm just spending hours chatting to men online. He has no clue that this is more fun than cybersex.

I've tried to explain it to my fiance and family, but they don't get it. I've given up saying anything about Y/A to them.
