I am getting one for christmas and just want to know. If not how much does the warranty cost? can you buy it at any time?

There is still a three year warranty on the xbox 360 BUT it only covers the three red rings of death. Disc read errors and other things like that only have a one year warranty only. An xbox 360 Service Contract plan will be $59.90 for two full years of total protection including parts labor. The service option comes inside with the manual.

Microsoft extended the warrant on all 360 to 3 years ONLY for the Red Ring of Death problem (which has been the biggest problem so far). Everything else is only a 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
