I take .10mg of Paxil as well. I like it, it made me yawn for a week or so but other than that its good. It has really helped with my anxiety. The zapping side affect happens when you forget to take your medicine. At least from my experience. When I forget to take mine two days in a row I get this tingling twitching feeling that I can only explain my saying it feels like I have turrets. Like I want to twitch my body, not really bad but it gets worse if I run out and forget it more than two days. I like it though, everyone says I seem alot more happy and I don't freak about little things anymore.

There's good and bad regarding Paxil and any other drug. The webs a wonderful thing but I consider 75% of what I read to be nonsense. I've been on 60mg of Paxil for 3 years. No problems. Some people tell horror storys regarding mental health drugs. That just isnt my experience. In regards to "zapping" yes it does occur when you stop taking Paxil, IF your doctor doesnt ween you off of it. Taking 5mg I wouldnt worry at all.

I am 29 and I have been on Paxil two times....one when I was 22 and one time when I was 24. I had to quite the first time because I was pregnant with my second child. Any way, it worked for me the first time. Until I got used to it, I was extremely tired and had dry mouth. However, the second time I was prescribed it, it was horrible. I got the shakes bad (side effect that I did not have the first time). So, it is really hard to tell if it will work for you unless you take it.

I know that there are some reports of "zapping". You must be weaned off of it and I would have to say that was true the second time, but not the first time.

I have been on Lexapro too and I would have to say that I, personally, am better off with out any of them. However, that is something that you are going to have to decide for yourself.

This stinks because all medications can have side effects but sometimes they are necessary. Paxil can cause sexual side effects in women that suck. The zapping that you were talking about can feel scary, if you start on it let your doctor know if you are not feeling ok. The zapping usually occurs when you come off of it. Have you tried therapy to help with your anxiety?

No drug is "safe"...

Some drugs are "safer" than others. Beyond that, it's a crap shoot. What you have to do is just start accepting that there are things byond your control. Once you start doing that, the anxiety will go away, and despite the FDA's ban on the use of the "C" word, you can be CURED without the use of drugs.

For some people with anxiety, it can (occasionally) be as simple as a change in their diet. For most, it will also include some councelling and (occasionally) becoming attched at the hip with a never-ending money pit called drugs.

Good Luck!

The question is, do you trust your doctor? Any antianxiety drug is going to take some time to really do its job, so try and relax (that is what it's supposed to do, after all), put down the coffee cup and breathe.

The flood of prescription commercials have done a lot to ratchet up consumer concerns, and it is great for the drug companies, but bad for everyone else involved. You pay your doctor for his/her advice. Try taking it for a while, and see where it gets you. Either you'll feel better, or you'll get a new scrip (or a new doctor!).

Yes you are old enough to take Paxil especially since your doctor gave it to you. Don't research tooo much on the side effects, try it, it takes time to work and the side effects if any that occur are definetely worth the results. If by some chance it dosent help go back to your doctor, but give it time please. Merry Christmas.

Years ago I was on it. It didn't work for me. Nor did the others they put me on. I stopped taking them all on my own and wouldn't go back to taking them. They didn't help me. Through the years I have learned how to control my emotions with out the use of medication. To my way of thinking why should I take a bunch of pills a day that I feel are not doing anything for me. If you feel it helps you with your problem great. If not consider taking up exercising or some other form of out let for your emotions.

Your doctor wouldn't have precribed if it would hurt you.
