Take it back to the store for a check up - if that's possible. Otherwise, you could contact the Nokia service centre. There has to be something wrong with it. I know, I have an N72 myself, and it really doesnt hang at all.
If none of this works, you could consider replacing it with another mobile, but because of the experience, stay away from the N series.

Ditch an NSeries phone after 5 months because it hangs? Hey, it's N72, not N76! May be it needs just a little bit of maintenance.
May be you have a 2 GB memory card full of data. May be your phone memory has some data that should be in the memory card. Or may be it's a really long time since you switched off your phone and gave it some rest.
N72 is a good phone. If it's an excuse to buy a new phone, get N82 or N95/N95 8GB. :-)

Throw it at the face of the dealer who sold it, ask him to repair or replace it. Ask him to better do it fast or you will canvas about his bad goods.

Get it checked, if it is a serious problem get it changed, otherwise try things like upgrading the firmware.
