Yes you should see a doctor, I'm assuming your Mum isn't medically trained? If she isn't, she cannot diagnose what is wrong. You need a Dr to check your iron levels, if they are low he needs to ascertain what is causing the anaemia and treat the underlying cause. If iron tablets are necessary he can presribe the correct dose for you.

Its fine, just that girls bleed more than guys and the loss of blood makes you slightly anaemic making you tired and dizzy. If you are still feeling under the weather after taking the iron pills for a few months then go and see a doc, but wait a while. I'm a little anaemic, well, I can't give blood because I faint and throw up and all that, just that I never remember the iron pills!

You should be checked out by a doctor before you take iron pills, if you are anaemic then yes you need to take them, a lot of young women become that way, and it is easy to do because every month when you have your period you bleed out so much blood and iron, but you should have the blood work done first. Too much iron in the blood is also dangerous, that is why you don't take it with out the doctor doing the test. I don't know where you are from, but around here so many people have had that flu bug and it seems to linger on and on for weeks and months with some people, that could be your problem, I would have your doctor check first before you start to self medicate. Good Luck

It is always better to check with a doctor before taking anything new. Really, you should not be taking iron pills unless your hemoglobin is shown to be low when your blood is tested. Iron can cause you to feel sick to your stomach and some people experience some bowel problems with it, so you don't want to be taking it if you don't really need to be on it.

iron pills are not good at all.... you should go to a doctor and have him check your iron. Then, if they deem it necessary, take the pills. The pills make your body really sick because it is hard to digest. An easier way to digest iron is dark green, leafy veggies- and they do not make you sick they actually make you feel better :)

Iron pills do help as long as you don't over do it... I don't think its unusual. If you feel no better in a week or so, maybe then you should call your doctor.

Your mum should take you to the doctors if she is this concerned. But there is no harm in taking iron tablets. But I think a multivitamin is a better choice.
