that bit in the episode where one of the characters hears the truth about scientology and learns the story of alien souls trapped in the bodies of the human race. as we see the story unfold there is a caption on the screen stating that 'this is what scientologists really believe'. is this true? i know it was done south park stylee so maybe funnier and exaggerated, but how close is it to the truth. or is it complete rubbish.

hilarious episode!

Migh - as far as Truth or Rubbish - I believe that Humankind is easily gullible and has no real idea of what is True or False - despite having "information" to back-up their arguments, etc. -- You can still have a normal, fulfilling life, without having to know what is really True - It comes from finding-out what it "right for you." - and to Heck with everyone else... NOW - I can only give you my own experience on Scientology.
- in 1977-78, I took a Communications Course at the Scientology Center in D.C.
- I actually got A LOT out of it! It reminded me of (sort of) a Westernized form of Buddhism. To go farther, required thousands of dollars (and this was in the 70s), so I stopped going.
- What I learned (not necessarily what I believe, but I like to keep an open-mind) was that they believe in reincarnation and all of your previous lives (including this one) have heavily influenced how you are "wired-up." -- This means how you see the world and REACT to situations and people, etc.
- Through their methods (Auditing) they can CLEAR your "trash" that has built-up in your head, that may cause the reasons why you're current belief-systems; and every emotion you experience that you find uncomfortable -- it's sort of like Psychiatry, without a license.
- I have hear stories that the "higher-up" you go in getting "Cleared," you learn that our Past Lives go back to before Earth was created, therefore -- we must have come from another World -or- worlds.
- The belief that it is a corrupt organization, that is "only in it for the money," is hard to prove. It may be correct or it may be false. Lots of Religions can be accused of being more concerned with Revenue, than Spirituality -- but I think every individual has a right to figure that out, for themselves.
- Scientology has Hundreds of books, but there is one that is worth reading - if you are interested in "an opinion" of how the mind works -- and that is Hubbard’s first book, Dianetics. -- Believe me, if you read it, you will NOT be thrown into a truck and dragged-off to a Cult -- It's actually a very well thought-out, intellectual argument - and I found the book useful -- but, I would not read anything else, unless you decided to search further.
-btw - I like Tom Cruise as an actor, but I think that he made a huge public relations mistake, when he challenged Matt Lauer on TV -- The Pharmaceutical industry is kind of corrupt, as well, but I do think that there are medicines that help people in-distress, that Scientology cannot help with...(and I end with a preposition)

No thats a bunch of crap.
Im an ex-scientologist and never saw or heard any of that in the couple of years I took their self-help courses.

If you read the anti-scientology sites then you would know it was crap. Check out Xeno.com or Clambake. They will tell you that all of the alien stuff is "secrets known only to the topmost members of the religion". That means that 99% of scientologists dont hear or care about any of that. And the other 1% deny that its anything but an analogy being badly quoted. So even with the anti-sites version, you cant say "this is really what scientologists believe" if 99% are left out by even their screwy version.

Yes it is true. The thing is though, that this whole alien thing was a "secret" level before the internet came along. L. ron hubbard said that it has to be kept secret because you have to work up to this level and prepare yourself for it and if you find out about it before you're at this level you could die. Well, it's been on the internet now for all to read and so far there are reports of people dying after reading it. The truth is that to get to this level you will have to spend about $350,000 and if the victims knew that this is what they were getting for their money they would never pay for it.

Yup, it is a pretty messed up non-religion. Popular belief has that L. Ron Hubbard made it up as a bar room bet between him and I think Carl Sagan. Hubbard bet he could form a religion and have x amount of followers by a certain time.

Under controversy:

"Conflicting claims about L. Ron Hubbard's life, in particular accounts of Hubbard discussing his intent to start a religion for profit, and of his service in the military.[143]"

Depending on the depth you want to go in to Scientology. It is pretty close. Take out the "South Park Spin", and it's dead nuts.
