My mother is one of 7. Most of my aunt's and uncles have about 2 kids each. The youngest cousin is 18. Of all of them, we are the only ones unmarried with no kids. Do the math, that's a lot of family. Thanksgiving we draw names out of a hat and buy something for that person. Some people get something for every one under 18 and some don't. It all depends on affordability. The rule with that is all of them get something from you or none do so no child is left out. The head count for kids under 18 right now is at 11 last I knew. Christmas Eve we rotate who's house to go to.
My favorite tradition is getting the youngest kid who can talk to ask grandpa to open presents. The old man yells "what" 5 times and sends the kid to who evers house it is. That one sends the kid to it's parent, then their grandparent, then back to grandpa, then to a random person. After a couple years of this, the kid knows every ones name. After 2-3 rotations someone shouts present time. The whole time the kid is hyped up on homemade sweets passed down over a many generations of great cooks. My fav's are the cookies and fudge.
While opening presents someone starts a wrapping paper fight. Then everyone gets in on it. Imagine 20-30 people ages 1-90 throwing wrapping paper at each other. Hilarious.
That's my family and a few of the traditions. Most are full blooded Irish. Despite what you might have heard, there is never any alcohol there.

In my family, the oldest sons of the family(I am one of them) prepare the dinner. The meat rather, whether it be a turkey or a huge roasted pork, or just some chicken wings. Another one is that either my grandpa or uncle anounces the gifts. Rather than the family just digging in, we all lay back as they call the gifts up. then, on cue, we open them.
