Right now TNA's main event is facing a lot of moral ambiguity. Can you tell whose face or heel anymore? Let's break this down:
Do you consider Christian Cage a face right now? He's been acting like his egotistical self as of late, but has been feuding against Kurt Angle and Robert Roode. While Angle constantly straddles the fence, Roode's a clear cut heel. So what does this make Christian?
Do you consider Samoa Joe a face right now? I find myself pondering this after seeing how TNA plans to use him after his shoot against Scott Hall and the company at the last PPV. Do you view Joe as a misunderstood face? Or a mythodically turning heel?
Do you consider Tomko a face, heel, or tweener right now?
I also have a theory that Styles, Daniels, and Joe are eventually going to start a homegrown faction, to go up against the former faces of the WWE. Think about it, Daniels is "fired," Joe's disgruntled, and AJ's getting fed up with being a lackey to Cage, Kurt, and Cornette

Could this descention lead to a New Blood v. Billionaire's Club type-esc feud between the former WWE and WCW franchiser's of the company? If so, where do you see it going? And who do you think will join the ranks of Styles, Daniels, and Joe?
I repeat, this is all theory, but you must admit, it adds up.

I can see how the gray area can be appealing to some, but audiences want to know who to cheer for (not saying that crowd reactions are hard to get in Florida. Seriously enough, TNA's crowd is probably the hottest crowd in wrestling, and usually, they don't need to be.)
I like your theory on the more human than human approach, but people want a hero, not an average (Samoan) Joe

I am kind of lost in it all as well.
Right now, the only people that are definitely something are Kurt Angle and Robert Roode, who are heels. I am lost on everyone else.
Until the actual wrestlers clearly make an action to differentiate themselves, I am assuming we have to take them as what they originally were. Also, we have to take into account how the wrestlers in the storyline interact with other faces and heels, and that way we can tell who is who. For example, Samoa Joe is still a face, but he is the type similar to Stone Cold, in which he will go against a heel or face in a match, though he usually sides with faces (thus why he mentions all the faces positively when he made his shoot).
Tomko and AJ Styles, until they make a definite action against someone, are still heels because they go against mostly faces in matches. The turn mainly is centered around Christian Cage, who has to make himself look more like one or the other.
That theory is a good one, but I don't know how definite it is. Joe, Daniels, and Styles are not really friends in character, but if they team up, I think TNA's main event scene could become WAY better.

All good points; some I've been pondering myself.
Cage and Angle. Years and years ago, Dory Funk Jr. (heel), when asked why he was cheered in his title match against World Champ Ric Flair, answered, "I guess the fans see me as the lesser of the two evils". That's how I picture Christian right now, the lesser of the two evils (Christian's funnier).
I understand Joe's feelings, believe me. He was instrumental in helping TNA grow as large as it has. Now he's being pushed aside while the more well-known stars are coming in and grabbing all of the glory and getting the air-time and big matches. This situation is similar to my own real-life situation at work. Briefly: for 31 years I've quietly kept a large part of a huge corporation running smoothly and efficiently. In the last few years there have been a LOT of college boys (who have never done any real work in their lives) come in and try to establish a reputation off of MY sweat and hard work. I got fed up with seeing THEM get rewarded for MY efforts. Joe made a statement that really hit home with me: pay me what I'm worth. So, basically, I became a "tweener". I'm generally a face, but I have no problem whatsoever being a heel when the need arises (righteous indignation will do that to you). I get things done and I get rewarded from time to time now. Corporate America proves that "nice guys do finish last" but I digress...
Tomko is definitely a "tweener".
About Styles, etc. forming their own version of Eddie Guerrero's WCW Latino World Order. That makes a lot of sense and I've wondered that myself. If Joe (assuming that he's the leader) can keep the rest of the guys serious (something Eddie wasn't able to do with the LWO) there could be some really intense, very emotional confrontations with TNA management and the former WWE/WCW stars. THAT could be the "nWo" that a lot of people have been clamoring for. Instead of three wannabe comedians, we'd have (at least) three pissed-off, morally outraged guys tired of being overlooked and screwed over. Three guys with the skills to make the in-ring stuff GOOD, not that laughable crap WCW pulled with the nWo (specifically Hogan and Nash). I tend to agree that this will come eventually. Each person can be pushed only so far, and it looks like Joe has reached his limit. He's always been a loner, though, so maybe Daniels would be the one to "motivate" Joe into being the leader of this group?

I like the abuiguity of it all. It makes it more real. There are no real bad guys and real good guys in the world. There are only people with conflicting personalities. Right now christan cage is christan cage, he's working the face side of the fence and he'll hop back over whenever he needs to and Kurt does the same thing. I think Joe's heading toward a Joe vs. TNA angle because I don't think they'll want to decend the entire company into a split at this point in TNA's existence.

See, my theory is that they have all the pieces they need in TNA right now. The main problem the company has is with its "creative" (for lack of a better term) team. There is so much ambiguity in characters that they are able to flip flop from week to week on a whim. Rather than booking to logic and common sense, they try and pull out all these wild and crazy and "edgy" ideas to help them and it plain is not working. Ratings may rise a point here and there, but its still the same people buying the PPVs as during the weekly PPV era. Despite what some other users in other questions may want you to think, if TNA cannot improve their revenue stream, they won't expand.

I think TNA is pushing for you not to think of Christian/Angle/Roode as a heel feud but to think of it and look at it as a conflict in personalities despite all parties still technically being on the dark side.

I agree that there is a lot of ambiguity, and I hope it is just because it is leading towards the faction war. Otherwise, it just seems to be they don't know what to do week to week. I think the TNA originals vs. Ex-WWEers would be great if done properly. Hopefully that would be used to finally get all that TNA talent over.
