I've heard people claim that 16 year olds don't understand politics well enough to have a say. Have you ever spoken to the majority of 30 year olds, 40 year olds, 50 year olds.... etc about politics? Plenty of people don't understand politics at any stage throughout their lives. At 16, you can pay tax. I think you should have a say in how those taxes are spent. At 16, you can be sent to fight for your country. You should have a say in whether we go to war.

The vast majority of young people think they are old enough to make decisions, despite the wretched quality of the decisions they make. That being said, the same seems to be true for a lot of people past the age of majority.
I suspect, however, that you are not an underage person, and that you are actually just stirring the pot. The stupidity of supporting any candidate simply because "he's really hot" or because "Oprah likes him," seems a bit obvious as a tool for rebuttal.

Absolutely not! Just because Oprah likes him is not a reason to make your decision. Now I like Oprah and I like Ellen and so on, but Hollywood and showbiz should stay out of serious politics. Stay in school and think about all these answers you have received and when you are old enough to vote, you will hopefully understand.

No. We shouldn't lower the voting age for the mere fact that you said, "He's really hot and Oprah likes him too." Those are bad reasons to vote for someone.

Let me try to understand this. You say you think the voting age should be lowered to 16 because you are informed on issues as any adult. Yet you say you would vote for Obama because he's hot and Oprah likes him, too.
Um...no, I don't think the voting age should be lowered to 16.

THere are some 16 year olds that are informed enough to make decisions but I can guarantee that over 90 percent of them will not vote. Trust me I'm 18 and I don't think that many 18 year olds will turn out to vote.
don't vote for candidates just because they are good looking, imagine how hilary will end up after 4 years in the white house.

here is a problem for 16 year olds. They are either apt to be more liberal then the voting electorate as a whole, or more apt to do what their parents do.
FURTHERMORE... 18 is when people are (for the most part) expected to be on their own and independent. Thus thats a reasonable cut off for voting and other forms of civic responsibility (like the military)

Your question right there tells you why 16 year olds can not vote. "He's hot and Oprah likes him" OMG that is no reason to vote for anybody. He is one of the least experienced candidates out there. He is only surviving on his color, charm, and etiquette. Any other person with his lack of experience would have been fed to the wolves by now.
16 year olds are barely able to drive properly (texting while you drive....come on how stupid is that). There is no way I want the fate of this country partially being decided by them. Sorry, just the way I feel.
I don't mean to be critical of you but how can you have a screen name of AhmadinejadFAN and call yourself an American? That is so wrong on so many levels!!!!

Because you think someone is hot and Oprah likes them, is not a good reason to vote for anyone.

No! Voting for someone because they are hot is a good argument for lowering the voting age? Hahaha, good one!
