Because he is a politician and politicians say whatever they think the voters want to hear, even though it is complete BS. They are all exactly the same...

Why be partisan? One should select the best people for the job and not just the best within one's own party. Too much of the cronyism has, obviously caused problems for Bush and has for others in the past. A fresh new face with fresh ideas and practices may be just with this country needs to get us out of the mess we are in right now. If a President Obama believes Governor Schwarzenegger is the best person for a job he will offer it to Gov. S. I find that really refreshing. It shows a rare willingness to cooperate and compromise, things that are very rare in Washington these days. Apparently Obama wants what is best for the country and not necessarily what is best for his party. Another refreshing return to sanity. (By the way Schwarzenegger seems more Democrat than Republican at times)

I never heard him specifically mention names although I will stand corrected if you provide a link. What I've heard him say is that he would not rule out appointing the best man for the job just because he is not a democrat. Obama's campaign has always been about uniting America and ending the partisan finger pointing that we have going on now. This is why he is the best man for the job.

Arnie isn't your typical republican. Look at him on issues--he is pro business but also pro environment and concerned with ordinary people. A lot of times you can't be certain what he will do.

I hadn't heard Obama was thinking of tapping the Governator, but he probably has a better handle than most on the problems and possible solutions for the immigration problem, from his experience as governor of a border state with a lot of immigrants, and the fact that he is an immigrant himself.

By saying that I'm guessing he's reaching to the Republican voters, trying to say I'll keep you in power.
But, he can say all he wants, it does not mean he will appoint a bunch of Republicans if he were to get elected.

Obama has a record of working in a bipartisan manner. You see issues that face America are more important then partisan politics.

The best person for the job may be a republican, a democrat, a libertarian, etc.

You can take some comfort if you're liberal. Arnold is barely a Republican. He has a Democrat adviser. Sigh, I had such high hopes for him too.

Maybe what he's trying to say is that he'll appoint people who are qualified, regardless of their political alliance. It's what every elected official should do, instead of giving jobs to incompetents just because they're 'owed' something for party loyalty. -RKO- 12/21/07

He thinks it will broaden his base of supporters. Just because he says it, doesn't mean it's going to happen. Again - another political ploy - like bringing Oprah along to woo the voters. He wants the voters to think he is reaching out across party lines; but in the real world, it ain't gonna happen.

Real democrats do what's best for the country. That includes getting the best qualified people, regardless of political party.
