A friend of mine (a computer newbie) just bought a rebuilt computer, her first. The person who sold it to her told her she didn't need an anti-virus program or a spyware program as long as she had a firewall. She thinks he's a computer genius cause he rebuilds them. I tried to tell her otherwise but she doesn't believe me..so how long do you think it will be before her puter is so screwed up she is begging me to help her? I give it a week at the most ..lol..we have a bet going on this..

Go on line for five or ten minutes and she will get hit so hard with trojans, adware, spyware, keyloggers, etc. etc. without any protection.

If your friends wants to destroy her PC, then she has money to throw away.

They guy who rebuilds PC's is a con artist, telling clients they don't need antispyware or antivirus. Keeps him making money.

I recently saw a statistic that said an unprotected Windows computer connected to the Internet would be infected in 10 minutes.

She needs BOTH a firewall and an anti-virus security program.

A week? I'd say not more than 48 hours. Please try to convince this person that she's skating on thin ice here!
