Personally, music bands today lack any originality or creativity in music, it all sounds the same to me.
If bands got away from the beatles tradition of two guitars, one bass, and a drum set (maybe a piano), they would probably interest me more

They are all manufactured, corporate puppets. They lack originality and talent. Their songs are boring and have little to no melody. They are all just riding their 15 minutes of "Hot Topic" fame until the next stupid fad comes along and they have to go back to working at Dairy Queen or Pay-less.
True artist get ignored while these moronic POSERS get the adulation for about 2 weeks.
When Rolling Stone put "Panic! At The Disco" .....the worst band name EVER......on their cover that was the day I stopped buying that magazine. It was the end for me.
I know it sounds lame and "old person-ish" (I am only 33) but the "popular" music today SUCKS the worst. The music business needs an enema...big time!

Its not about the music anymore, its about light shows,semi-naked bodies, and marketablity. When was the last time you heard of large numbers of fans travelling around the country just to catch the same band again live(Grateful Dead and Phish)? When was the last time you heard of musician leaving a label because the label was going to charge what he thought was too much for his fans(Tom Petty)? When was the last time you heard of a vocalist who did not have the movie star figure but an amazing voice(Aretha Franklin)? When was the last time you heard of a band being blacklisted in a western country for one of their songs (the Pogues in the UK)? The Music industry has become just that--an industry. The first priority is selling mass produced music. Expressing onesself musically and lyrically is not encouraged unless of course it sells records.
Just my humble opinion,
A.C.

As an aspiring performer I know what you mean. Modern music seems to lack discipline, integrity and inspiration. Folks without character can't write music with character. Also, the 'best' melodies seem to have been mostly taken, and new stuff sounds rehashed or uninspired. It's hard to find diamonds in the leavings...

I listen to country more than rock these days, but I like 3 Days Grace, Seether, Korn, Green Day (if you can ignore the anti Americanism) Linkin Park. I am all about some of the classics, like Ac/Dc, damn, my mind went blank, but there are tons of classics I love too. I don't really like a lot of the screaming death metal as I would call it. I am not a big fan of a lot of the new sounds, except for country, otherwise they just don't do it for me.
Y'all have a happy holidays

Because none of that JUNK comes from the heart. Today's music is a bunch of corporate sponsored, pretty boy, B.S. .And the most obvious thing is that it's not ROCK AND ROLL. It's heartless, 'look at how cool I am' JUNK!

I prefer music from the 1950, 60s & 70s.
I suppose it's all just a matter of taste.

It's just they're too busy putting themselves in "this"category or "that" category... There are some songs(few) that I don't mind because they'er unique.. But look at rap too, all you hear is the same thing abotu beating people up, getting money, bangin chicks, racial slurrs...
it's because they saw how one person made money off of it, so they're gonna do it to, just different wording....
We need someone to save us!!
