Spirits and demons have exactly the amount of power you decide to grant them (in your imagination). If you believe they can do something and you are able to make that happen psychologically, then it will happen. However, the demons and spirits didn't do it to you, you did. Or, if whatever happens has a natural cause, you are much more likely to attribute this cause to something paranormal.

EDIT: Don't listen to those superstitious people above. They use the invented the power of Jesus to drive out the invented power of evil spirits.

Demons can be expressed in a person's life as
something tangible, like alcoholism, sex addiction,
dishonest behavioral patterns, -- anything
that can destroy one's life.

Evil attacks people who don't focus on God
or the good in life.

These people are vulnerable and fall prey to demons of
whatever type that alter their perceptions, destroy
their ability to love, and eventually kill them, if they
do not seek God or otherwise obtain intervention
in their lives.

Yes

Spirits and demons can take over a humans mind. They can alter their thoughts on how their lives are. In other words, demons can drive people insane and eventually make them commit sucide.

To avoid ever having a demon posses you, I would suggest that you stay away from ouija boards or anything that draws spirits attention. Keep faith with God.

yes they can... i have seen many ppl here say that they cant harm you.. but they definitely can.. a friend of mine lived in a haunted house.. due to financial constrains, they didn't move.. things started to worsen.. her daughter (11 or 10 yrs then) was lifted of the groung and flung against the wall. her loving husband suddenly tried to suffocate her... his voice was different and he had a strange look in his eyes. on another occasion he tried to stab her ( he was possesed on both occassions).. she immediately moved in with her mother..but the house was never sold.. they soon went broke. although her husband is back to normal now.. she is too creeped out to stay with him.

Well, there is no way to absolutely prove that they can, or to prove that they cannot. But there really isn't any good evidence to support this idea, so given that I'd say don't worry about it. I wouldn't worry about the evil gnomes living under your porch, either. Or the shadow person in your broom closet.

You first have to define what a spirit or demon is. Some people believe demons are an evil entity bent on hurting you any way they can. Others see demons as negative forces within someone's life, such as the demon of alcoholism.

As for the Bible's interpretation, that can also be taken in several different ways. Most people take the perception that those people in the Bible who were considered "possessed" were people with demons within them and they took on the appearance similar to the "possessed" girl in the movie "The Exorcist".

But if we look at the ways the Bible speak of demons, we can ascertain that demons are spirit entitys out to hurt humans any way they can. But what ways are those ways, exactly?

Whether you believe in the Bible or not, you can't deny the fact that some people go through negative changes within their lives due to outside influences such as gambling, alcohol, and drugs. They also have negative internal influences such as sexual perversion, greed, selfishness, and hatefullness.

If you study the Bible, you see that it refers to demons hurting people in these ways. Also, when it comes right down to it, the Bible basically wants people to be good in their hearts, correct?

But take a look at what types of change happens to a person who does lose himself to drugs, gambling, sexual perversion, greed, selfishness. The goodness in his heart gets overshadowed by his worldly desires, and he compromises his beliefs and his actions to do whats good and whats right to satisfy these worldly desires.

A person who would never steal from his parents may do so once he's a drug addict. A man who would never want to hurt another person may fight that to abuse a child in order to satisfy his perversions. A gambling addict may do illegal acts to get money to gamble with...something he would never do without the addiction. The list goes on.

What has changed in these people? Their hearts.

The Bible states that fighting off the corruption of the world and stay good in our hearts is what God wants of us. The Bible also talks about Satan and how he has filled the world with these types of temptations to lead us astray.

With that, one can conclude that Satan and his demons only have one potential power over us: the power to provide temptations. What for? Like the Bible says - to change the good thats within our hearts.

We can take from this, then, that a "possessed" person actually has given into temptations to the point that the goodness in his heart has shrunk to the point that his worldly desires define him. If a man is stealing from his closest loved ones, lost his job, sold his belongings, and lies and cheats to get money because he's addicted to gambling, couldn't that be seen as him being "possessed"??

Is it possible that when the Bible speaks of Jesus casting demons of of someone, it wasn't speaking of Jesus confronting someone like the girl in "The Exorcist", but instead someone who had lost their internal goodness of their heart to worldly temptations, in essence, being "possessed"?

As I mentioned earlier, the Bible talks of Satan and demons as being spirit entitys. Whether or not this is true, what is true is people go through negative changes due to certain outside and internal influences. They have died due to these influences. Many people have died because of drugs. Did a demon kill them? From certain aspects, and what you consider demons to be, the answer would be yes. A more concise answer would be that the demon caused that person to kill themselves.

So certain negative influences can ruin a person's life, and even destroy it. The Bible refers to these influences as demons, while other people just feel that a person was bad or ended up going down the wrong path.

But according to the Bible, this is the power that Satan and demons have. They don't have the power to come into you and kill you in the way people see "possession" from watching movies.

No they do not exist. I find it odd because the main people who have demon attacks are the people who believe Jesus is the Savior. Being a Baptist if you are like the Baptists I grew up with you have nothing to fear because Baptists are no the ones who have demonic possession in their church doctrine. The main people I have seen who suffer from demons are the tongue speakers who claim to believe they have the same power to perform miracles as Jesus did.

In my opinion most Baptists are more stable mentally. Just my opinion here.
