Big Sims2 fan here! I also am not sure about those meshes. I usually down load the mesh free ones. If I do get one that requires a mesh, I usually delete it because to be honest, I don't find it worth the hassle of meshes. I would rather play my game than spend my time looking for the mesh!! Besides keep in mind, the site you get the mesh from might not be virus free. I mean you take the same chance with the down load you take but, bottom line I don't use the meshes, there is alot of good downloads with out it!!! Happy Simming! Merry Christmas!

Depending on what you're downloading, a mesh may or may not be required. If you don't want to use a mesh, don't download the file that requires it. Things that need meshes are typically items that look nothing like items that already exist for the game. Want to download a waterbed? There's no waterbed in the game, so you'll need a mesh. Want to download a teal refrigerator that looks just like a refrigator in the game? You won't need a mesh.
Use a site like http://www.modthesims2.com - it will tell you if you need a mesh right there. If it does, it will either link you directly to the mesh or include it in the zip/rar file.

The site should give you a link to a mesh, or tell you where it is, if it's not included. You need to download the mesh. It's the "shape" of the download, and what you've been downloading is only what goes over the top of the "shape", like the texture or colour.
Modthesims2.com is my favourite site. You mostly don't need meshes, but if you do, it'll show you a link to the mesh right at the bottom of the page, and say "This download requires a mesh".

let me see, a mesh is the original base from which the item is created.
in order to download and install the mesh, if you see opne of the buttons, you need to click a button which should say 'mesh'. you then click save, and save it in any of your folders. in order to install this file, you may need q-express:
http://qxpress.modthesims2.com/
please note- once you install a particular mesh, you need to install/download any of the items that mesh will code for.
also, for downlods, try:
www.xmxims.com (you need to download meshes, but, hopefully, you now know how to use them)
www.sexysims2.com
www.modthesims2.com
www.peggysims2.com
i hope i helped.
