I realize Hoffman has the saves record, but he broke Smith's record, and Smith retired with the record. yet few people put Smith as a yes here. Posada - many say no way, many say a lock, interesting...

Jim Edmonds - I would put him in, he will finish with around 400 homeruns, a .290 average and is one of the best defensive outfielders of the last 20 years. He may not be a first ballot guy, but I see him getting in eventually in a year when the hall of fame class is weak (like 2008)

Rafael Palmeiro - I don't see it happening. He had a great career, but because he failed a steroid test in the last season of his career after telling congress he never used, you really have to question his whole career. I think the voters will make an example out of him. Maybe 30 years from now, the veterens commitee will put him in (since they'll all be from this era), but no chance he gets in from the baseball writers

Roger Clemens - He gets in, but 2 weeks ago he would have been elected close to unanimously, but now i think some of the old school writers are going to pass on him.

Barry Bonds - Much like Clemens, i think he gets in as he had hall of fame numbers before the time he allegedly began using, but he may not get in on the first ballot, again as some of the writers may try to prove a point by note voting for him.

Andy Pettitte - No even close. Without being linked to HGH, i would have said he needed another 30-40 wins to be considered, and now with this revalation I think he has no shot.

Gary Sheffield - Tough call, but my gut tells me no. Like Bonds, we aren't 100% sure he used, but we are pretty certain he did, and assuming he started around the same time as Bonds (1998), unlike Bonds, his stats leading up to 1998 were not of a Hall of Fame player. Also, HOF voters include the players character into consideration when voting, and Gary has basically been an *** his whole career, so that certainly won't help him.

Trevor Hoffman - No doubt Hall of Famer.

Lee Smith - I can't see how he doesn't eventually make it since Sutter is in. He has close to 200 more saves in only 5 more seasons. He has better numbers than Goose Gossage, who everyone always seems outraged at when he doesn't make it in

Jorge Posada - His offensive numbers are better than Fisk in almost all catagories, in less seasons, but Fisk was great behind the plate, where Posada is average at best. I think its close, but he'll get in on Yankee bias

Jack Morris - Over 250 wins and great postseason success should put him in at some point, much like Blylevin

Griffey is a lock. Edmonds hasn't a chance in hell, and neither does Posada unless he sticks around for another 5 years and plays like he did in 2007. Palmeiro would have been a lock - same with Clemens and Bonds, but we'll have to see how this steroid scandal plays out. Clemens and Bonds have a better chance of making it than Palmeiro. Pettitte needs another 50 victories or so (and no more steroid or HGH involvement) to be considered. Sheffield has been such a jerk wherever he has played, that sportswriters might hold this against him. He needs to get his 500HRs to be even remotely considered.
Hoffman and Smith are deserving, as soon as the writers come to their senses and realize ("discover"?) that closers make or break the team. Finally, Morris deserves to be in - while he didn't win 300 games, in the era he played in, winning 17 games a year is a great accomplishment (plus that World Series against Atlanta...).

Putting Jr. into this discussion is dumb. Regardless of his mediocrity after age 30, he was elected to the All-Century team before that, not to mention that he still has 500 HR's and had it not been for injury Barry woulda retired a long time ago because there's no doubt that we'd be watching Jr. break Hank's record. And think about it, if he woulda juiced 1. he'd be fat (like Barry) 2. he probably woulda been on the DL season after season.

Since Jr.'s in it would have to be Posada, he's one of the best catchers of his era, not to mention that he is still an elite catcher today. If you say that Posada has borderline stats then (Gold Gloves aside) so do Pudge Rodriguez and Mike Piazza. He's been just as productive as both these Catchers who are probably HOF locks. There's no doubt that in my mind that Posada deserves to be in the Hall. And he still has 4 World Series Rings!!!

Griffey- Yes, he is a lock. Best all around player in baseball.

Jim Edmonds- No, never considered the best at his position during any point of his career

Rafael P.- No, never impressive or considered the best at his position either, and steroids certainly dont help.

Clemens - Yes, would have hit 300 wins regardless, maybe a couple years later but eventually

Bonds - Yes, was a hall of famer before his head grew, maybe never gets to 700 homeruns, but he would be right around willie mays # regardless

Pettite- No, not enough stats, wins, yeah he has championships but he wasnt considered an elite pitcher during his time

Sheffield - Yes just based on numbers when he gets to 500, but he is not going in til a 3rd, 4th or 5th ballot

Hoffman - Yes only because of the amount of saves he is going to finish with, but doesnt deserve it like a Mariano Rivera does.

Lee Smith - Yes, deserving, he was feared more than hoffman

Posada - Yes, he might not have gotten the press like other catchers (pudge, Piazza) but rememeber he was in NY with the like os Jeter, Clemens, Piazza, playing in the same city. but he is deserving

Jack Morris - Yes

Ken Griffey Jr: is a lock for the hall of fame. First ballot.

Jim Edmonds: No

Rafeal Palmeiro: Would have been in the Hall, busted for steroid use...no chance of making it now

Roger Clemens: Stat-wise, no doubt. We will have to wait until this steroid scandal surrounding him clears. I would expect to see him in the Hall of Fame some day.

Barry Lamar Bonds: Yes*

Andy Pettite: No

Gary Sheffield: Will reach his 500thHR this year....yes

Trevor Hoffman: No

Lee Smith: No

Jorge Posada: Yes

Jack Morris: NO

Griffey, Palmeiro, Clemens, Bonds, Shef, Hoffman... (he's the all-time saves leader NOT Lee Smith... hardly "borderline stats", Lee Smith.

First you have alot of your assumptions wrong.
Sheffields stat are not borderline they are HOF no doubt! .296, 480 and 1576! he will go over 500 hr and 1600 rbi's No way is that borderline. That is a lock! He has 2500 hits which means that there is a slight possibility of 3000 it is slight

Andy Pettite is not boarderline he has won 20 once despite playing on some great offensive teams, has a 3.95 ERA, will not reach 300 wins, and has never won a Cy Yong. Not HOF

Hoffman is the all time save leader not Smith. Hoffmans stats put him in Lees not.
Morris 254 wins? 3.9 ERA not exactly HOF #'s
Possada is 2 good year s away from that discussion

That said. unfortunately unless you can prove that they took them you have to let them in. On top of that there is so much of the storuy we don't know. As was said this is the tip of the iceberg.
