One of the many mysteries of our perception of time.

If you've ever heard the expression "Time flies when you're having fun." it describes this problem. I think it is where your attention is based during these times, because when you are having fun you are not staring at a clock the entire time therefore, you are not paying attention to how much time actually passes. When you're bored or doing some activity that you hate, you are more likely to stare at a clock or at least glance at it often. This means you are paying extra attention to timing, and on top of it you are bored. Therefore your perception of time is that more time has passed then if you were out having fun with your friends, then the night would go by too fast!

They have done a scientific study on this recently and believe it is not so much our perception/experience... but our memory responsible for this... we just remember it as having gone by faster. Not sure if I buy into that theory just quite yet.. (the study was actually about how time seems to "slow down" in certain situations like say.. a car wreck)... having experienced this and the sheer number of thoughts that went through my head.... but who knows.

Here's a link to the study I was talking about.

It is, probably, theory of relativity. When you are living a fast life, time moves fast (an hour is like a minute) and when you are bored, it moves slow (a minute is like an hour)

When we enjoy the time we're spending, we don't waste time thinking about the time, itself. When it's bad, all we can do is dwell on the badness in our lives, which causes time to appear slower. It's like being in detention and watching the clock, versus the "five more minutes" in bed you sneak.

Because we are doing what we want when we have time to ourselves. When someone else owns our time, such as school or work, we rarely have any say as to how we can spend it.
