i have the implant in my arm to stop me conciving iv had it in my arm 2 yrs just gone i have a 2 yr old and would like another but not yet is it true the implant affectivness reduces as time goes on just wondering when ishould get it taken out dont want to wait the full 3 years if theres a chance the implant doesnt work aswell towards the end would rather get it changed just before just dont know wen if that makes sense dont want any surprises would like to plan my next child

It works effectivly for the full three years. Ive had mine 5 years now (onto my second one now) and when i went to get my first one changed, my doctor advised me that after the three year period is up, you have about 6months before the implant effectivley and properly runs out. If you really would like another child in the near future, you'll have to have the implant removed. Therefore you'll be able to plan for your next child. Just remember that the effectiveness of the implant at all times is 99%, meaning that there is that slim chance that you could still become pregnant, although i do stress slim.

the implants release a continuous and measured dose of hormone to keep you from concieving, and they do so right up until the end of their supply. If you doctor told you three years, then it's three years.
