I am now 8 weeks . I had a vaginal ultrasound and sonogram during my emergency visit. Then, 1 week later During my follow up visit, I had another sonogram then vaginal ultrasound. The doctor said she see's 2 sacs but 1 pregnancy. (twins possibly, reason for the special attention is because i'm spotting. but isn't that too much xrays for the baby/babies? She says she will give me a 3rd sonogram/ultrasound in a month? is this ok?. I'm worried about getting a 3rd ultrasound, should i be? why. thanks for all the help comments and advice.

I'm high risk and they have been giving me ultrasounds at almost every appointment. I figured that even if there is a risk, they must be checking for something that MAY BE A GREATER RISK the the ultrasound. It's the "lesser of two evils" theory. I would rather get a lot of ultrasounds and catch a problem early then to not have them and something go wrong.

During my pregnancy, I had quite a few ultrasounds. I actually went into premature labor, but they stopped it. So, I was in the hospital for 6 weeks so they could keep a watch on me in case it happened again. Just over the course, of those 6 weeks I had maybe 3 or 4 ultrasounds! So, I would not be worried if I was you. Remember, the Doctor knows best. I do not think he/she would do the ultrasounds if they did not think it was necessary. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!

When she says she sees two sacs but one pregnancy, that could mean that there were two babies, but now there is one. Do not worry about another sonogram, she just wants to make sure. I am pregnant with twins and have had 7 ultrasounds/sonos so far. It is just to check up on baby/babies. You are fortunate to be able to have another one done, many doctors will not perform more than one. Do not worry, the u/s are fine. My wild little ones are very healthy and hey have had plenty of u/s.

Ultra sounds aren't like Xrays. They use sound waves to retreive images. This doesn't usually bother the baby until they develop hearing much later in the pregnancy. And even then they do not know if it does any damage. After 20 weeks my daughter always got very fiesty during ultrasounds...but then I don't know if that was just because I had to lay on my back. So who really knows.

Transvaginal ultrasound is generally done early in a pregnancy to determine fetal age or to detect a suspected ectopic pregnancy. It is occasionally done late in pregnancy to determine the location of the placenta or in a high-risk pregnancy to monitor the length of the cervix.

Ultrasounds are perfectly safe. They are similar to x-rays but at the same time nothing like them. X-rays are the only harmful ones. Good luck!

Ultrasound waves are nothing like x-rays. There is no evidence that ultrasounds cause any complications. Rest assured!

ultrasounds do not use X-ray, the amount of radiation they give is very small. your doctor would not give them if they felt there was a risk involved. you have a special circumstance that warrants frequent checking. i wouldn't worry about it. best of luck.
