Here are four ways that MLK has impacted and continue to impact regular citizens are that 1) he advocated non-violence and with today's news about gun fatalities we can all hope and pray that more people will realize that shooting one's enemies is for nought 2) he sought to unite Christian hope and theology with an emotional laden struggle that disunited the people of God (mainline religion) in order to bring America to a post-Civil War mindset wherein all citizens (rich, poor, different races) were to be regarded equally with Constitutional rights like Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of Speech as well as voting rights and so forth 3) he was a bridge figure between the Doctoral trained academic circles of the world and the common folk of Alabama (where he had his church in Montgomery) and Atlanta (his native city and where he co-pastored with his father) 4) he was an international figure who visited Africa, India, Europe and was greatly admired for his courage and gifts of oratory
