This is kinda hard to explain. Most white people believe that the native people of this land find great importance when we see a hawk or some other powerful animal. We do, but it is hard for people of western thought to understand. The best I can explain it is the wonder you see at the power of the bird, and you are blessed to see it.
That is it in a nut shell, and i know that really does not explain what we believe.

I can't believe the answers you are getting to your question. The hawk, by Native American tradition, is the Great Spirit that watches over you making sure you are walking in spiritual balance. If a hawk flew over you , be prepared for an increase in dream visions. He is looking to assist you in the goals you wish to pursue. It is a good and powerful omen.

It means you're in the jungle baby and you're gonna die. Ha Ha. I used to have a very big problem with superstition but thank God that I am over it. I no longer believe that anything good or bad will happen to me because of one thing or another. I just trust in the Lord and whatever happens whether good or bad I give him honor and glory for it.

it means something good will happen to you over the next weekend, but if 2 hawks fly over your car you will have a weeks bad luck!!!!!

Of course the poor hawk may take the point of view that you drove under him and may have a stupid fear of some kind too!

Hawks usually circle around roads searching for "road kill".
Most "super natural" birds are suppose to be ravens, eagles and doves. Ravens are "signs" to follow, eagles represent "strength and honor" and doves are "signs of love". This is all just old wives tales....but I have known a few enlightened old wives.
