i was just recently wanting to read a humorous book, when i discovered my bookshelf is cluttered with mostly sci-fi and fantasy. so what would you recommend me to read if i want to laugh??

i would prefer books similar to the hitchhiker's guide and terry pratchet. i also though catch 22 and books by tom holt were good. i like satire.

please make it age appropriate... i'm sixteen and i don't do much vulgar humor... doesn't agree with my stomach.

your suggestions are very welcome!!!

Douglas Adams is great and you should check out the "Holistic Detective Agency" books if you haven't read them. Also Piers Anthony's Xanth series has got the best puns. The earliest ones are the best.

I know these are "old books", but I have had many a laugh from P.G. Wodehouse. When my kids were teenagers, we used to read aloud every so often, and they cracked up reading his short stories. You might know the the Jeeves and Wooster stories, but there are lots of other "themes". The plots are crazy and the comments are so funny. I loved the Golf (Oldest Member) stories (even though I know nothing about golf), Mr. Mulliner, Uncle Fred. "The Clicking of Cuthbert is one of my very favorites. Here's a website:

Christopher Moore. I've just recently discovered him. The first book I read was "You Suck" - a vampire love story. There literally was not one single line in that book that wasn't funny. It was almost exhausting!

The last line was "And the huge shaved vampire cat Chet was upon him."

I next read The Stupidest Angel. One of the characters is a fruit bat named Roberto who wears pink Ray Bans and can talk.

If this type of silliness is up your alley, you've got a treat in store.

Read the Joan Hess Maggody series. They are mysteries, but quite satirical and lighthearted.

Try "Big Trouble" by Dave Barry. Kind of ridiculous but a funny read.
