I only read about half of that... but I also don't quite agree with the theme.

In today's world, men are programmed to think they physically and emotionally "need" this woman they've provided for (for sickness and in health... for better or for worse, blah blah blah). While there is a need, in most cases a secure attachment forms. A divorce will break that irrevocably.

As for how the law is in this country, women clearly have the advantage. This isn't up for debate. I've seen too many cases favor women on the basis that she is more vulnerable to abuse because of her gender.

A lot of it is horse crap, and there's not much you can do as a retort to comments like "you are insensitive" or "you hate women."

Preach on brotha

That is an accurate description of divorce in America.

Notice all the shaming from feminists in an attempt to shift the problem onto you and take the focus off of the main problem which is the 'kid glove' treatment women receive in nearly every area, especially divorce.

While sensible and adult individuals realize that divorce solely favors women, some immature individuals still try to take offense at your pointing it out.

I have a question after reading the feminist responses:
Is this an indication of the level of competence and intelligence of feminism? If so, no wonder the term "feminism" is treated like a four-letter word.

Don't get married. Don't have children (use condoms). It's that easy. You will never find yourself in this situation since you can't be divorced if you've never married.

Oh, and tell the women you date that marriage is not a possibility as well so that you date the right TYPE of women. The type that is not looking for marriage either.

But for those willing to take a risk for love, I see reform in divorce/child custody proceedings in the near future. It'll be a good thing when it happens.

So far in the states, it unfortunately seems that the only place where either gender is treated with equal regard in divorce is in Hollywood. If both are rich and famous, the money, property and child custody is divvied up based on the individuals (think Britney Spears losing custody and having only supervised visits etc).

I definitely think reform is needed for us regular people as well for the sake of equality. Things are not what they were in the 1950s (Thankfully!!).

Well, divorce is an ugly thing. A woman is likely to be the next President of the United States. College enrollment is about 65% women. Women live on average about 4-7 years longer. Women are the least likely to commit suicide. The wage gap will close in the next ten years because most of new qualified workers are going to be women. Despite contrary opinions, women are honored and respected for their roles as mothers and caregivers. Men are often blamed for societal ills but women are teaching men very little about life. Maybe if women nurtured and cared for their male children maybe there would be less war, murder, raper, etc. I'm not saying it's a pro woman world, but people should admit the scales have tipped in their favor and the future for women is even looking brighter. As often as we hear that men aren't needed or wanted. Women think they'll be just fine without us. Hell, we're not even needed for procreation.

Here's an interesting little tidbit:

"According to a study in the American Journal of Psychiatry, they [men] suffer the effects of divorce with the intensity that their wives experience the death of a close friend."

So is he saying women care more about their friends than their marriages?

"In today's world, men are programmed to think they physically and emotionally "need" this woman they've provided for"

In todays world, both partners work. Men are not the exclusive caretakers of women; women and men are taking care of each other. When you enter a marriage, you share your belongings. When both partners contribute to the family assets and then they split up, it is only fair that the values be divided. Men who think that it's unfair are just whiners who don't think that their spouse deserves the same things as them because... you know... their men and they feel they are owed the world on a silver platter because of their random gender assignment. I seriously doubt that men enter relationships simply because there is a societal message that tells them they have to. There is a thing that exists called, "love", and it is felt by all genders. This is why ALL genders enter relationships. Likewise, both men and women choose to end relationships, and I know this may shock you, but it's not always because they want to rape the other person of their assets. As far as custody of children, maybe if more men didn't treat child rearing as "women's work" regardless of whether or not the mother worked outside the home, they would win more custody battles. If you want equality for men in courts, make sure you have equality in the home.

Well, don't act like we have it all good. Many women are still programmed to think that they need men financially and emotionally. When they lose those men, they're in considerably rougher shape.

Besides, having a legal advantage isn't always a good thing. The underlying message is that we're too weak to handle what men are handling.

The article was written from the man's point of view. Who knows, that dude could have been a 'closet psycho'.

However, I don't see the article as 'women bashing', it's more of a warning of the hidden emotional perils of a divorce.

The men are the ones causing all the trouble...

raping
wars
incest
domestic violence
guns and gangs

And no, I don't hate men ... I just think that men DO need women. Either that or they just pretend they don't know how to do anything for themselves once they have a good one, i.e.

child rearing
financial planning
housework
groceries and cooking
how to put on a tie
when to shower, etc. etc. etc.
...
