People are contrary. They don't like being told what to do, or not to do, so when someone asks them not to do something, they start thinking about it all the more, and wondering why they're not to do it, and then eventually they may do it - even though it wouldn't have occurred to them if nobody had ever mentioned it.

Yes, that's right. When you tell somebody not to do something, that arouses their curiosity in that matter and they want to do it more.

they feel challenged to do so...it's always like that, especially when it comes to little kids. try saying the opposite, they'll do the opposite...

there's this copycat in school and when i said "look, i have new shoes. bought them in.....copy that again, okay?" she never copied anything ever again...it's a bad example but saying the opposite helps...

It's human nature.
The moment someone tells me "No", I often want to do it more.

It's like saying 'you can think of anything as long as you don't think of a black cat.'

Then obviously, they have put that image in your mind and its all you can think of.
