What punishment would be dished out if a man were to be found in a brothel?

It's in the paper today that prostitution is not illegal, only running a brothel / pimping / kerbcrawling, is that right?

Harriet Harman thinks that it is, but then she has it in for men. Notice, that she wants to criminalise 'payment for sex' and not 'receiving money for sex'. That way, she gets to criminalise the man and not the woman.

Moreover, define 'payment for sex'. Targeting a man for his money, or the taking of payment in kind could be regarding as payment for sex. Such a ban might also increase the number of sex attacks and/or increase violence on the street. Lack of sex can make some men more likely to be violent after drinking. Still, all these unintended consequences are off Harman's radar.

A massage "parlor" is not defined, so any place a licensed massage therapist works might be considered a parlor. Since the state licenses massage therapists, I doubt one could be arrested for being a customer. If you're using that as a euphemism for brothel, yes the customers can be arrested where there are ordinances against it. Soliciting is also against the law in some areas. Every state, city, and county has its own ordinances, so you just have to look them up before you get into trouble, not after. Ignorance is no excuse.

ooh no, its not a crime. some "massage parlours" get a bit of trouble with the law, so get raided a few times. unless your caught with your pants down or a trouble maker you just get a slap on the wrists. if you want sex go to a prozzie, if you want a bit of playfull fun look up holistic massage etc. some of them are pretty open minded. but be polite dont hassle the girl.

Yes, that's correct.

It is legal to pay somebody/be paid for sex but not to solicit them.

There is nothing illegal about a massage parlour unless it is a front for a brothel.

You're right in one sense, that prostitution in itself is not illegal, but man of the activities surrounding it are.

I can't give you a clear picture of it, and I think some in power are happy to leave it that way, with people assuming it is illegal.

it is not legal as the government aren't making money from it. it only becomes illegal as soon as money is exchanged. if you was found in one i doubt much would happen to you more like the place would be shut down and you would be sent on your way with a slap

can make a case for soliciting prostitution if found in such an establishment, unless he was filling the Coke machine.

It depends on who saw the man in there and how easily he/she could be seduced.

Not really but it could be embarrassing if it is raided.
