Try one of the software programs like NetNanny or such. I recall reading about one of them that will give the kids a daily access allowance and then automatically cut it off.

If you are using a router, there is often an area where you can setup a schedule which determines when and how long others can be on the Internet. It is simple to setup.

To access your routers configuration pages you use it IP address. To find this out, the quickest method is to right click on the connections icon in the notification area, and selct Status, then click on the Support tab. On the support tab, locate the address for the Default Gateway. Write that down.

Now, open up a browser and put that IP address into the Address Bar, not the Google or any other search box, but the main one at the top. Don't put http:// or .com, just the IP address as it is. Hit Enter.

Your routers configuration pages will appear. If you have setup an Administrator password, (if not you should do so now, it is of vital security importance) and then look to the left at the options and if need be click on the entires under Firewall, or Settings until you locate the page where you can setup these limitations on computers.

You will need the IP address of each computer you wish to limit access to the Internet. To get these addresses, you simply open up a command prompt and type ipconfig /all

There is a space between ipconfig and /all.

Oh, you do this on each child's computer you need to get the IP address off of.

Now, information will scroll down the screen, locate the connection, then locate the IP addess, and write it down with the name of the child who uses that computer.

Just enter the IP address into the proper place in the router configuration pages, select the date to start, the time to start, the date to end, if any, the time to end. Depending upon your router, you can setup diifferent times for the week days and for weedends. I use a Belkin and can do both.

Now, when a child trys to stay on longer than the allowed period, the router will shut the connection down.

There are also other methods you can use, such as the netnanny, but I think using what is already in the router works best.

The major issue is if they use your or your spouses computer, then you would need a software program that can set this up by account, if there isn any such thing, I am going to check out netnanny, hold on.

OK, netnanny would be great in addition to setting up limitation in the router, as it is a reporting tool, not an internet connectivity tool. It will provide a parent with detailed reports on what the children are doing, and what websites, programs and tools, and allows parents to know exactly what they are doing at any time. You can monitor their IM chats, and many other areas. It says nothing about disconnecting children from the Internet or setting up connection limitation. As I said, it would be great in addition to the routers limitations on connectivity.

Hope this helps, please have a super holiday season.

One thing you could do is just draw up a daily allowance plan. If this a situation where you can enforce such rules, you could just say "you have X amount of time a day, if you go over you are in trouble"

Depending on how tech savvy your kids are, they might be able to work around any block anyhow... ;)

Netgear routers (I don't know about others) provide a facility where you can set a schedule. Using this schedule you can then set specific times computers can't have access to the internet.

I would just disconnect the ethernet cable from the PC and the Router, and put it somewhere the kids can't get to it. If your kids are able to get another ethernet cable, then I'd take the power cable from the Router, as these are harder to come by.

Hope this helps.

You have a few options.

1.delete the password for the internet a.c. from the icon you use to connect to the internet.

2.disconnect the modem or the router.

Do whatever you feel is easier for u.

If you're using a router, check if it has access restriction features. You can set the settings there. =)
