The easiest thing would be to get your feeders from a commercial supplier that sells them prekilled and frozen. I know they gas them, and I'm pretty sure they use CO2, which doesn't poison them, but rather deprives them of oxygen and they just kinda 'go to sleep'

Usually we use CO2 to gas the mice or animal. It's quick and humane. You can find out how to make CO2 chambers online. The only other way is to hit them over the head or cervical dislocation. However, if you don't do the job properly, it's not very nice. Especially for larger animals like rabbits. CO2 can be purchased online as well. My rodent supplier gets it in large tanks about the size of the ones used to blow up balloons (although that's helium and not CO2)

Easiest way is to just buy frozen/thawed.
The easiest way for the squeemish/sensitive is to get a co2 canister and use that. It has to be a regulated amount of co2 in order to be considered humane.
The other method, cervical dislocation, as someone described above, is also considered to be humane IF DONE PROPERLY but it takes a lot of practice to master and newbies won't be able to do it quick and painlessly.

Hi, I breed my own feeders and what I do is go buy dry Ice... Put the feeder animals in a appropriate sized rubber maid tub, Put the dry Ice in a bowl of warm water, with a pasta strainer over the top and put that whole unit in the rubber maid tub... It dissolves into co2 gas, and they just go to sleep. so far its been the most cost efficiant and humane.. Hope this helps

I use the Co2 home method. It's very inexpensive, fast and VERY effective using only vinegar and baking soda. I have killed feeders this way - and I have given small pets in their end stages of life a peaceful way out. The last were two pet rats riddled with cancer.
Here is the link - and it really is very quick. If you have any questions you can email me.

Breaking neck = good
Freezing = bad
Neck breaking is instantaneous death, no pain, no suffering.
Freezing is a slow death with lots of pain. They don't even recommend freezing for euthanizing reptiles anymore. I read the scientific explanation about what happens as they die a freezing death. Did not sound pleasant...

If you are killing quite a few at a time then Co2 is the way to go. take a 5 gallon bucket put a few inches of pine shavings in it put your rodents inside and put the lid on you will need to have a small hole for the hose off of the Co2 tank. You can pick up small tanks and regulaters for a little over $100.00 it sound expensive but it pays for itself in a year or 2 if you feed off a lot of rodents.Put the hose in the hole in the top of the bucket and turn on the gas for like 60 seconds then turn it off and wait 2-3 minutes and its all over. They basically pass out from lack of air and go to sleep, permanently.

The fastest, easiest, and most humane way to kill the mice is to hold them by the tail, and smack their heads againist the edge of a desk. Sounds terrible, but it kills them instantly, and they don't feel any pain. People who say killing isn't humane are so wrong. Feeding your snake prekilled (the ones you killed) are much better than having the mouse strangled, and eaten alive by a snake.
You can go to a petstore that has a good reptile section, and they will usually show you how to kill the mice with this method

What Dion is describing, called CERVICAL DISLOCTION, is commonly used and correct.
Hold mouse/rat by tail on table, put object...like a pencil, across the back of the head behind the ears, and while pulling tail back apply a fat forward/downward motion to the pencil. Viola.....neck broken quickly.
This is actually more humane than gassing them. It is faster and causes less suffering.
Rabbits are another story.
***I agree...freezing is NOT a humane way to go!!!!!!!! It only makes PEOPLE feel better about it because they can close the freezer door and not have to WATCH or do anything!!!!!
