Be honest

For example - if you see someone who is morbidly obese, do you assume that they're lazy?

NEVER

Absolutely not! Some have thyroid? problems or something else. I tend to love these people more because they truly do not have the same choices as others. Its not their fault! Appearances can have an impact on our society. Sometimes for instance, in clothing, if I'm in uniform, I'm respected more, a sign of authority, but not always. Sometimes I feel moody so I dress acordinally but then again, appearances can make a difference. If I'm walking in a shop. ctr. & I have a suit on, the older folk seem to "not worry" about me but if I have slouchy, dirty clothes, people tend to avoid me, which in fact I'm still the same person. A friend of mine is over weight, very much so, she is one of the nicest people I know, & would do anything to help you. Thats one of the problems we earthings have is visual interpatations. I think, deep down, everyone thinks the same way! Oh, come on now! You know you do!

I almost always judge people based on looks. I know it's not morally correct, but I can't help it.

But for your example of a morbidly obese person... I dont always judge them to be lazy. I judge them to eat a lot.

To be honest, I think everyone judges by appearance, even though most of them won't admit it...it's just natural..the first thing you see is someone's appearance and we make quick judgements...not to say that they are always right but it happens all the time and I admit that I do it every time. Oh well.

Yes. We are a visual people & as bad as it sounds, you get an impression off of what you see. We make all kinds of assumptions based on looks. Sometimes these assumptions are wrong as really good looking people can have the worst personalities, etc. We make assumptions based on color when it should be the individual person. If I see a very feminine male, I assume he's gay. If I see a masculine female I assume that she's a lesbian. We make assumptions based on body size. With the body size, I do believe that it is a condition that can be changed if the person is willing.

Even if a person is blind, they make assumptions also. They hear differences in peoples' voices, their scents, etc.

Everyone does...whether they admit it or not.

I don't have any strong views on obese people, but as I said in answer to another question...I do have a prejudice against people with tattoo's.

If I were an employer I would never employ anyone with a tattoo or any piercings other than for earrings. I know it's not fair, but i simply think there is something wrong with people who do that to themselves.

well i have a friend that is 'obese' and i thought that people give him a hard time and he is trying to loose weight (so he said).
but then i visited his house and i found out that all he does it sit and watch TV and eat.
then he joined a sports club and then gave it up with in 2 weeks.
so i didn't judge by appearances but i do now.

not always though

I wouldn't judge the obese person, but I'd judge the person who laughs at the obese person. However the best thing to do is to not judge, and I try my best.

No I don't usually. And I have an obese brother-in-law and I know he's not lazy, just big. So that wouldn't matter either.

no thats kind of mean but if you don't know someone and just see them for the first time appearance is the only thing you have, people make assumptions all the time but they shouldn't. Some people just don't look how they act if you know what i mean.
