I pose this question as to wheather abortion and legal consumption of marijuana would be legalized, do you as an individual have to do it? Does the fact that it is legal makes it obligatory?

Many people assume the lagalization of abortion would mean more individuals will do one, equally with the legalization of marijuana.

It is legal for me to eat coconut but since I can't stand it, I don't. It is also legal for me to go sky diving but I've never done it nor do I want to.

Just because it is legal to do something, it doesn't make it compulsory to do.

In the US, abortion is legal. I suppose that since it is "out there," more people have the option of choosing to do it. However, what I have seen is that more and more people who would normally have given their child away to adoption or aborted it are keeping their babies and raising them. A way the US society has developed to combat a potential rise in abortion rates is to lower the stigma attached to unwed mothers and the children of unwed unions. (Just a note...abortions were performed even when they were illegal with a high death rate for the girls who sought them.)

I know I'm not an expert on the subject, but personally, I think that if alcohol is legal, marijuana should be, too. I don't drink, I don't smoke...or toke (or whatever it is called these days). I also really don't think that smoking marijuana leads to harder drugs any more than alcohol does. However, this is my personal opinion. I personally would not be outraged if they legalized marijuana.

I wouldn't personally do marijuana, and I don't think the law stops people from using it very much anyway, I think if it was legal then it would be more socially acceptable, the same with abortions, although I thought this was legal in most of USA and UK (where I live), if it was illegal a lot of people would still do it, but not as many, mainly due to social acceptance, people will be scared of what people will think

Doesn't make it something you have to do. I'm legally able to apply for a drivers licence, can work in many different jobs, can smoke, have sex, get married, move overseas, have children, run for the local government...but I don't want to or haven't really thought about it. Does everyone do absolutely everything they are legally able to do in their lives? No. Abortion and legalisation of marijuana is no different (I wouldn't do either).

True, just as legalizing same sex marriage does not mean that we are obligated to marry our same sex. However, both abortions and marijuana have side issues that complicate them.

Legalizing either one,has nothing to do with it.
Its all about money and more money.
It is not about the best interest of the people.
Its our choice now,so what is the difference if they legalized it or they dont.
MONEY
