I booted up yesterday and my normal desktop did not come up.I have no icons.I just have my background picture so I cannot navigate from my desktop.The only way I can do anything is to hit "ctrl alt delete" and than switch tasks.How can I restore my desktop?Thank you for the help.

you can try right clicking anywhere on you desktop and when little box pops up click properties and go from there or if you still have start button you can try system restore, go to accessories then system tools to get to it

Right click anywhere on the desktop. Click on the "Arrange Icons By" option. In the submenu near the bottom is a selection "Show Desktop Icons". Make sure that is checked.

Go to task manager.
Check whether the explorer.exe process is running under the processes tab.
If it is not running access it manually.
To access manually,
go to, My computer>C drive>Windows>System 32>explorer.exe
