No they are not the same. Astigmatism can cause blurry vision with both near and farsightedness. Yes, Lasik can now cure both. Other than the surgery the best way to handle both is with contacts. Wearing contacts can correct the problems but also will not cause your sight to degenerate as fast as it will with glasses. Wearing glasses causes your eyes to have to adjust constantly because your entire field of vision is not corrected, causing strain on your eyes. On the other hand contacts do correct your entire field of vision.
