Jonathan,

You hit the nail on the head.

WTF do you have a 9mm if you don't know how to break it down for cleaning.

Now step away from the hand gun, I don't wanna read another story in the news about some moron who blew his head off while cleaning his pistol........

I'm assuming you mean what is the best way to do it? Get some Hopps cleaner a bore cleaning set a tooth brush and a shallow pan. Or get a sonic cleaner and fill it with Hopps solution.

Get a cheap gun cleaning kit....and some cleaner and oil
Here is a breakdown of a Smith And Wesson 5906. Most 9mms are patterned after the 1911a1 so the components are basically the same...

What kind of pistol is it?

1. UNLOAD the FIREARM.

I think if you want to own a firearm you not only need to know how to use it but how to clean it as well. Take it back to the gun shop you bought it at (UNLOADED) and ask someone to go threw field striping it with you. I am sure they will teach you how to field strip and maintain your pistol.

If you bought this from a gun shop, they should of shown you or at least asked you if you knew what you were doing.???
Make sure it is unloaded, Check, Check, and Re-check.
Depends on what brand and model you have. Then go to the website of the brand and download the manual.

Soft rag, gun oil and a pull-through.
Read the owner manual first! You may get confused by the mechanism if you strip it too far.

Read the owner's manual regarding field stripping, and there you will also find tips on cleaning and lubing the gun.
