Well if you can afford it, adapt another cat. The next cat you adopt, should definitly be an inside cat only. You will have to litter box train him/her, but inside cats have longer lives. Les things happen to indoor cats, and they aren't put through as much danger.

I know you must feel horrible at this time. Pets are like our friends and we love them like that . Also just know too that the person who hit the cat probably did not do it on purpose and they probably feel horrible about it also. I was coming home from work one day and I watched a cat that had just gotten hit by a car coming the other way from me and honestly I think the cat was just running from something and ran right out in front of the car so fast the car did not have a choice. Especially if a cat is being chased by a dog or another kind of preaditory animal they dont even look where they are going and they run so very fast this can happen. Just take some time to cry about your cat , and if you can , have a little funeral for it, that helps. In a little bit of time try to go to the animal shelter or humane society and adopt another animal that needs a home. Again , I am sorry this happened to you, I know how it feels to lose that pet you love.

Aw no come on now i know its really hard because my kitty got hit by a speeding car on my 18th birthday and it ruined everything but you can get through this for now crying is all you can do. I know this is really soon but would you be allowed a kitten and keep it as a house cat? or maybe a bunny or hamster so you can divert you attention to them? Things will get better i promise death is just a part of life, if it makes you feel better you could write to (who ever the local council e.c.t) and say what happened that that you would like speed ramps or a speed camera on your road.
Best of luck you will get through it!

I'm sorry for your loss, I've lost two in the past 3 months to medical problems (heart, cancer).

If the cat was 100% indoors,no car could reach him. It's only possible to be hit outside, so he always had that possibility hanging over him. It doesn't help, I know, but any future cat you get would be much safer indoors.

Very sorry for your loss :-(

The poem will make your cry, but will give you comfort for years to come.

Be angry that it happened, but not at the person who did it. Cat's are small and hard too see. It should have been indoors, or tied with a harness if it was outside...

I know this is 9 years ago, but I feel I must say something to the people that tried to " shame" this young lady who was asking for answers in her grief of losing her cat. Her cat had been struck by a car. Those of you who felt the need to try to "educate" this grieving ypung lady on indoor vs outdoor cat longevity statistics, shame on you. For those of you who took it a step worse and tried to place blame on this grieving woman as she reached out for help, may karma find you swiftly and double shame on you. I agree it is our responsibility as pet parents to keep them as safe as possible, BUT we do not know the precicating factors. We do not know if the indoor cat snuck outside. If tough decisions were made to give a rescued tomcat the best quality of life, etc. The time of grieving after a loss is not the time to place blame, assume, inflict accusations to cause the bereaving person guilt for a situation. Nor is it an opportune time to " teach." It is a time to listen. To support.

I'm sorry :~)

At least the cat didn't suffer, worse things could've happened.
Looking at the cat will be A hard thing to get over, probably
shouldn't have done that.

I am so sorry for your loss...but if you had kept the cat indoors you would not be going through this today. The driver is not to blame..you let the cat out knowing that it's life would be in danger on a daily basis. If you replace the cat..keep it inside so you will not have to go through this hardship again.

You killed your cat with your negligence. Quit blaming the driver. And quit being a whiny little brat.
