There is no best it all depends on what you use it for. I.e. something that may be best for someone that shoots only pictures of his/her pet may not be best for someone that shoots only sports.

Tell us what you use for it and we'll tell you whats best for you.

Your question is WAY to vague. We need to know more, as the specifics of what and how you will be shooting and the shooting conditions will greatly determine the best tool for the job.

There are 35mm film SLRs, 35mm Digital SLRs, medium format, and large format cameras on the market, subsets within each and different accessories to be matched for shooting needs/conditions.

To give a specific brand or model at this point would really be doing you a diservice in my opinion. While all the cameras mentioned in posts before me are quite good and produce excellent quality in the hands of a professional, you may pick the wrong one for your specific needs because you've given us nothing to go on.

For DSLR

For Semi-Pro
I think Canon 40d would be the best.
It costs about 700 pounds body only, it came out recently which mean lot of new technology and function added to it.

Or if you are no looking into DSLR
Then I suggest you buy Canon XIUS serie, I think canon camera always give a good quality picture.

If you want style have a look at sony band they do v.slim camera but be warn the lower quality of the image.

The best way is to go to the shop and try them

the Leica digis take Leica lenses so I rate them

The Hassleblad H3d is flash.

In DSLR 35mm (Leica and European cameras aside) , the canon 1ds mark 3 with 21mp is quite good, aslo full frame 35mm so thats handy also for the small formats. the D5 after that then the D3 then the cropped digitals.

I hope you have big wallet.
