This present life to them is just a series of days to be endured in the long wait for the next "real" life...I find this outlook extremely negative myself, don't you.

Martin S : Existing in an annexe in a war zone sounds even worse to me and very militaristic too I might add.

Infested by mindworms: Why don't you just go open a few doors and see if there is anything behind those facades, go have a drink in the Saloon.

Yes, that is a very negative outlook. I'm glad that as a Christian I have a Biblical perspective on this life and not the one that you seem to have heard that Christians have.

The Bible teaches that...

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

2 Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Christians don't see this life as being in a "waiting room". Rather it is more like being in a Spiritual war zone where we are on a rescue mission trying to help other people find the way of escape before it's too late.

Even that is of course an over simplification. The Bible also teaches that...

1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Proverbs 5:18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful deer may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.

Edit:

Existing in an annexe in a war zone sounds even worse to me and very militaristic too I might add.

A "spiritual" war zone, where there are unseen forces of evil that work against what is good and seek to keep people from living their lives God's way.

2 Corinthians 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air (Satan), the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressionsit is by grace you have been saved.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Galatians 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

You have good instincts. There is definitely something amiss with that thinking. For me, it has to do with the mistaken notion that the Kingdom of heaven only begins after we die our earthly death. When Jesus kept saying that "the Kingdom of heaven is at hand," what He meant was that for us Christians, heaven starts NOW, not after we die. If we totally disdain this life for the easier, more comfortable one after our death, we are going to be disappointed when we realize how much time we wasted, when we could have been growing in the Holy Spirit, right here, where we are now, on earth.

but what if this all is not the waiting room, but the main street from a western movie? no houses but a series of the fronts of houses and saloons, with nothing behind?

That isn't Christianity, that's fiction dude...

Christianity is about living life to the full for God and for others. Doesn't sound much like a waiting room to me?

Jesus said I have come to give life and life to the full. He came to set the captives free, give sight to the blind etc etc - any Christian who sits around waiting for heaven is ignoring Christ's teachings!

Sorry, but as a Christian, it is hard for me to identify with that
view. As a Christian, I look forward to each new day and am
very grateful for it as well. As long as you can get out of bed each day I'd say life is great.

The magazines are usually out of date and boring. And mainly for women or retired pensioners. Dull.

Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour

Yes, to your second question.

If this is a waiting room, then I'm that kid who won't behave, looking under everything.
