What's the best Kendo class/dojo in NYC? Been considering taking a few lessons (also, are there any gyms that happen to offer classes also?) Thanks!

Hi Janet;

Look for the Ken Zen Institute. They are located somewhere in the "teens" off of 6th or 7th avenues.

I haven't been there in years but I'm sure they are still there.

They offer Kendo, Iaido, Shorinji Kempo, Karate. There are different dojo there in the Japanese arts.

As far as fencing goes, I don't know.

Also, in the Rockefeller center area, the Japan Society offers Kendo and Iaido and Kyudo(archery).

Hope this helps.

If you walk around the streets at night in the big apple you may find the mutant ninja turtles pering from a manhole. Approach them cautiously with a pizza and ask them to train you seeing how they defeated all those goons with kendo sticks and karate kicks.
