why do guys ask me if i have a bf?
ive had like different guys ask me if im seeing anyone, but then have no intentions of going after me.... so whats the point in asking?

Guys ask women this question for a multitude of reasons...maybe they were interested in asking you out, but want to know if they will get shot down before they're off the blocks; maybe they'd like to hang out and be friendly with you, but don't want the hassle of dealing with a jealous BF; maybe they think you're so hot, you MUST be in a relationship! There's not enough time or space here to give you the exact answer; the real question is: what do YOU do when a guy asks you the question, sit there and look smug, or smile and enjoy a decent conversation? The ball's always in your court.

Sweetie, if a guy asks you if you have a bf that means he is interested in you and reserving the option of going after you at some future point. It could be in the next five minutes or any time after that.
Asking if you're seeing anyone is a way to ask if the coast is clear if he does decide to go after you.
A guy may ask any number of women this question.
Even a man who is married or has a girlfriend could be interested in you. Avoid them like poison.

ur assumed name is suggestive like,"Don't look anywhere else but here only." A person like me may miss to notice this but what about those who are queueing up in Y/A looking for a friend. There is a name 'Abhishek' who is dying to make a friend on y/a for chatting. I asked him what would he chat about. We are here in Y/A to share our problems. We r here to find how people 'd behave in a situation I'm placed. ... Here we get very honest opinions...I don't say that this is not a place where u can't find a friend...u can but it has to happen... it's not a matrimonial column where u feed bio data or collect bio data for matrimonial purpose....and then decide whether it's suitable or not...I'm in my cage ... u r in ur cage there...still we can be friends...but that cage is going to remain.. i can sooth en ur hurt feelings and u can mine from there but each others' cage only...it 'd be fairy tale that a prince travels thousands of miles on a carpet to meet the princes in distress who is shackled in a castle by a magician...

Some guys are overly competitive. They only want what they can't have, for the thrill of trying to take it away from someone else. If you aren't attached, they get no thrill from having you. It is silly.

This is your perfect opportunity to make friends.
They don't think they have a chance with you so in not liking rejection, they are reluctant to ask.
You could say, "Why do you ask? Are you interested? We could talk about it."
Your not making any promises but are just opening the door to possibilities.
