Absolutely... we do it everyday. In fact, most places now have digital video, and we don't even have to go to the store, they can send the video via email.
PS- We catch of lot of bad guys with those videos.. including employees.

The police will go and ask for a copy of the video if he needs to if you were arrested by the police officer in that store, then yes he has all the right to go in and ask for a copy of the surveillance video that captured you in the act. Its probably like that all throughout the united states but you might want to look up the laws in your state and county referring to that specific incident or crime.

yes the police can. certain crimes victims can decide if the wish to persue with charges. if the victim in this case a business didn't want to persue charges then there would be no need to get the video unless there is a possibility they could link the suspect in other crimes and need to identify the suspect. if the store says no you can't have the video then the police would have to get a warrant which is not hard to do. if the victim wished to persue charges then victim being the business would probly hand over the video in order to identify the suspect in ordered to get compensated if there is damage and loss of merchandise.

This is store policy. I did LP in a few department stores in the day to include target and sears. We had full disclosure for the police.

Of course, what did you think it was for
The store will probably look at it first
They will also look before the incident to see who is "casing the joint"
I don't see why the store would want a warrant, its for their benefit

If the owner/manager chooses to give it to them (unless he is the one under suspicion).
If the owner/manager is killed during the robbery/burglary situation, they can pull it to solve the murder.
But if no one is killed and only money stolen, and the owner/manager doesn't want to give it to them, they don't get it. Of course, that would probably mean the crime goes unsolved and the business loses money, so this probably wouldn't happen a whole lot.

Of course. They are evidence, to which the police/ courts/defendants are entitled. What have you been doing on camera that you don't want the cops to see?

Not without a warrant to do so, unless the store voluntarily gives it to them.
