Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are very different. Which city is your favorite, and why? If you like Tel Aviv but know it cannot compare to Jerusalem in terms of holiness, etc, you can instead tell me why you feel more comfortable living in Tel Aviv.

Two very very different cities, only 35 miles apart!

Jerusalem is the official, religious, and cultural capital of the State of Israel, with a unique history and the gravitas to match.

By comparison, Tel Aviv is Israel's commercial and entertainment capital, and its only aspiring global city:

Jerusalem stands at the epicentre of the religious and political issues of the region, while in Tel Aviv such problems can often seem a long way away when you are sat at a beachside cafe or in one of its numerous bars or clubs.

To each their own I say, but I personally love living in Tel Aviv.

Edit: Vapid and materialistic - so I guess that must be me then! I love visiting Jerusalem's Old City too, but when I come home I want to be able to relax, and Tel Aviv is a much more chilled-out place than Jerusalem. Worldluv - yes all the foreign embassies are based in Tel Aviv, but the fact is that Israel's government (the Knesset) and legislature (the Supreme Court) are based in Jerusalem, so that indisputably makes it the official capital...

Contrary to what Londoner stated, Jerusalem is only the capital in the eyes of the Israeli Jews. ALL other countries in the world do not recognize it as the capital! Instead, they recognize Tel Aviv.

As far as which city I prefer - although Tel Aviv has beautiful beaches, Jerusalem is by far my favorite, hands down. I love the old city wth the different quarters, the markets, and the yummy arabic food.

Jerusalem hands down! Tel Aviv is too commercial, like Oahu in Hawaii.

I prefer Jerusalem. I find Tel Aviv too vapid and materialistic for my tastes.

I prefer the city with more to offer: history, culture, religion, etc.
