I need to know what is a good time schedule to eat before working out,and how long after. When I don't eat I don't feel like I have the energy to have a good workout, but when I eat to close to working out ,I feel sluggish.
I don't want to ruin the gains of working out by eating too soon after working out either.
If anyone knows a good educated answer and reason, please let me know.
I do mostly cardio ,light weights, and running on track.
Trying to get on a good schedule and finding it difficult to do so,and feeling right about giving it a good workout without feeling sluggish ,or not having enough energy to give it a good workout thanks.

for cardio eat first, protien, low gi carbs, then wait an hour to an hour and a half then do your workout and after take a protien shake immediatly (The protien will prevent catabolism) that is if your cutting. If your trying to increase your stamina then a low gi carb meal like 30 mins with protien would be better. For lifting before workout protien shake and after, a protien shake, and some simple sugars or a carb supplement from maltodextrin would be good to prevent muscle loss and kick start muscle repair as soon as possible (If your aiming to lose fat by increasing your metabolic rate with weight lifting than go low on teh carbs). Eating every 2-3 hours just smaller portions (include protien) after your workouts is important for the repair of your body; your body after a workout goes through a period of time where it increases your resting metabolic rate because of post-oxygen consumption so eating right after doesn't affect your gains it helps repair your body, remember all gains are made during rest. If your trying to lose fat then just eat protien, if your trying to increase your stamina or strength than eat the right type of carbs with your protien.
