okay, so this christian guy keeps asking if we could be more than friends, and i would LOVE to, because i love him, and hes the sweetest guy on earth. other than religion, we are both very similar, were both insecure, both have low self esteem, both like the same music, we both think the world of each other but nothing of ourselves. We have only talked about god once, he asked me why i didnt believe i told him, and he asked me if i still prayed, i said yes sometimes when its really bad. I don't know if this can work... but i love him, HELP??

Go for It. If you really love him and he is the sweetest guy on Earth that would mean that you can respect each others differences. As long as neither you or him make Religion an issue then there is no problem. Its No problem for him, since he already knows you are an atheist and asked you out.

I am just being totaly honest and I'm not being malicious
I hope you realize that a Christian puts God before everything and everyone. He loves God more than he will ever love you and it may even sometimes feel like he hates you because of this.
If you can except this then date him if not it's going to be a rocky relationship. God is in him and a part of him so if you talk bad about God its going to hurt him. If he loves God then expect to hear a lot about Him. You probably think a lot about this guy and probably talk a lot about him with your friends and family because you love him. Well thats the same reason this man you like talks about God because he is litteraly in love with Him and practicaly married to him in a sense of what marriage is. He is life long commited to God. In getting to know a Christain intimately you will begain to understand and know God more. Keep praying, who knows maybe God is answering you through this man. He hears your prayers;)

Don't listen to the haters who mock you for praying that's just them being human its not anything like Gods nature.

Peace!

The thing that most compelled me about your question/commentary is that you say that you don't believe in God, however when in trouble you pray to Him. This is really where your problem is. It is a contradiction or better still your an idolatress. An idolatress is female for idolater, an idol worshiper. Please do not be insulted, let me explain. Whatever occupies your mind the most, whatever you think about the most is the thing that's most important to yourself. If you spend most of your thinking hours about money then that is what is most important to you, that is what you love the most, in fact that is what you worship. Whatever you think of more than God is Idol worship. The mass majority of people are idol worshipers. Getting back to having a relationship with someone that "REALLY" believes in God is not a problem. But having a relationship with someone that dose not believe in God is a waste of TIME!

Are you sure that you are an athiest? Maybe God is trying to reach you. This guy sounds like he is wanting to help you and you need to be helped. God is only a prayer away if you believe. It is easy to belive that he is not real, but if you just stop and think about why we are here and realize that it's not all because of science. If you really like this guy, then open your heart and listen when he does talk about God. I know someone who was athiest, but now is changed. This guy could be good for you, but you yourself need come to know God as well. Then when you do seek God, he will show you what to do. I hope this relationship works out for you. It is easy to say God isn't real when you hear of all the negative things about believing in God, but it is a miraculous thing to have an experience in knowing God. God bless you in all that you do, and in this relationship.

I apologize for being straightforward, but if you PRAY, you're demonstrating belief in a higher power, which precludes you from being an Atheist, maybe Agnostic, though......otherwise, there's no reason you can't have a meaningful relationship

It could work, as long as it's understood that there will be no conversion attempts from either of you.
If he can't leave your beliefs alone and pushes you to pray or read bible passages, then he is clearly disrespecting your boundaries and you need to move on.

Ok first of all you sound more agnostic to me but anyway you need to not worry about religion this is something we made up if GOD exists he exists no matter what and being in a certian religion is not going to change that. if you love him and really care then by all means go for it what do you have to loose. If your not sure what to do about the religion part keep it out of your relationship, he believes what he believes and vise versa. Religion Who Cares. Love is endless.

I think it is a relationship that is doomed from the start unless you can become one of his religious 'tribe'. It sounds like you might not have made the full transitition to atheism - so it might be an option. The other option is if you can convince him to become atheist. That sounds unlikely.
The love thing is quaint, and it can be a bonus, but a successful relationship requires more than love.

If you don't talk about religion, it is easy. I dated a Mormon girl once and it worked out pretty well for a while.
If you pray, you sound a little more like an agnostic or even a theist to me.
