Penguine : Mantras do have powers in all yugas.. it is the people are degraded not the mantra.
Dont believe anyone... See it yourself...honestly try a mantra advised by a higher soul and see if you see something..

Some people said in answers that they cannot get enlightenment by reciting a mantra. One should not answer without knowing!
What is a mantra? A powerful vibration. Enlightenment is not external to you, you are enlightenment, the mind and ego is responsible for our misery or thinking ourself a body. When a mantra or any word is meditated on, the mind gets concentrated and loses its crookedness or jumping attitude and becomes calm and free from thoughts, when this complete dissolution of thought occurs, then it is called Nirvikalpa Samadhi(Enlightenment) or Moksha.
Any word is good for meditation and achieving Samadhi, but Gayatri Mantra has more powerful vibrations to achieve Enlightenment quickly.

Answer: No - nothing has the power to ALONE grant moksha. Realisation is a status earned by a lot of hard work - and recitation of Gayathri mantra is not quite there. If one understands what Gayathri mantra signifies and utilises that in his behaviour, maybe some results can be obtained.
COMMENT ON ONE COMMENT by a retARD !!
For someone whose sole resource is a book that says the Earth is flat, he sure is true to his full name.
Why doesn't he try answering just ONE of my questions - or those his own disbelievers (Atheists) raise at him? His answer will still remain Verse-Y Chapter-X of his book that says the Earth is flat. And I bet he doesn't know even that - because his pastor did not tell him and he did not read his own book.
COMMENT ON ONE COMMENT by A.S. !!
Check out YA, sir. Christianity is dying because the Atheists are speaking better logic than ye. Hinduism dying?? Who on Earth told you that?? You may have come to India and converted some Hindus that never prayed at all - does that mean Hinduism is dying?

It alone is enough.Gayathri mantra is addressed not only to Savitha but also to Parabrahman and by constantly reflecting on the meaning of the Mantra along with proper chanting(mental)it can lead to Self-realisation.
You should have got the upadesh from a Guru and it is not advisable to chant it by reading it from a book or by chanting "after hearing it from a CD.
During evening time, before chanting,we have to tell
Gayathriya rishi:Vishvamithra:Nijrudhu Gayathri chanda:
Paramathma devatha"
So note that Paramathma is the devatha addressed.
So Gayathri alone is sufficient to get Moksha.
Mogha ksheyam is moksha. That is cessation of desires is Moksha.Gayathri will give all you desire and finally you will be fully contented and be absorbed in your own Self and realise yourself which is the Ultimate.

I am deeply hurt by the comments. Aum is doing a great service to the society, his learned presence is keeping this board at this level. Please don't disparage "cut and paste", it is no less research than reading.
You have nothing to be defensive, I admire you and your knowledge.
In my way of thinking realization is the ultimate goal. I am a seeker, not having reached my goal, i can not proclaim any path to reach the goal, as the only path. Once I reach my goal, may be I will see the various other path also reaching the summit.
Mantras do have the power, meditation do have their power
If there was only one path, then all realized soul would have favored it. I am not going to recommend the sufficiency for Moksha.

Gayatri Matra is known to be a very powerful Mantra which will remove darkness (negativity) from our mind and lead us to light( enlightenment or positive thinking and positive attitude). Even Sh Krishan says in Holy Gita that this mantra is the best and he grades it the Best. I feel Mantra ve positive auto suggestions and anyone who recites it will be giving these auto suggestions to oneself and this will fortify one's thoughts. Thoughts result in actions and whatever we do, first of all we think and then do. Whatever happens in our life is the outcome of our thoughts. There is law of attraction also. Whatever we think, it attracts similar events in our life. So if we chant Gayatri Mantra with the aim of seeking Moksha, it will certainly prove so. However even a perverted mind will also be benefitted with continous chanting as in the case of Raksha, they did Bhakti with the motive of gaining super-natural powers and worked hard and long for it, they received those powers and when they misused their so-achieved powers, it led to their destruction. So thought is Almighty. The Mantra has powers to change ur thoughts also as the words in the Mantra denote love and light in life.

How can Mantra alone get us Moksha?Mantra is only one of the means. We have to follow in action/effort what Mantra ordains to get the liberation. After all Gayatri Mantra ask the Divine Being(God) to give us the pure Intellect and guide and inspire us to tread the right path, We have to walk the path! Not sitting and mere chanting!Grace of God and our human effort must combine to reach the Goal;Mantra is the Grace,we must put our efforts towards treading the right path with right conduct .Virtue is doing good to others, sin is hurting others. We must practise that.We pray for God's Grace to help do that action!

Scripture highlight that it lead to Moksha. This mantra has been highlighted in all four Vedas and that too repeatedly. And I have also found that it is very powerful mantra and should be effectively (recitation with Bhava/meaning) used in your Sadhana. It's beautiful compact and yet so complete in itself. It is remembeing the God, prayer and finally surrender to the God!

many opinions and some slugfests thrown in for entertainment, great.
seriously, there are many ways to moksha. gayatri mantra may be one of them if prescribed by your guru. guru is imp and guru's guidance is even more. refer auto biography of a yogi.
mantras have powers. well aum here just wrote something, a innocuous q infact and it got the goat of a couple of ppl. if that's the power of written word, imagine the power of a guru taught mantra.
aum - dont worry, let some people be what they are. even with your best efforts they cannot change cos they do not want to change.
the example of ravana, drona, karna by "do it...." brought a smile to me. that's not the lesson to learn dear friend. the sun burns hydrogen to give us light and heat. the same process in the hands of humans is a "weapon of mass destruction".
even the best of mantras in the hands of people with evil karma will create negative energy.
we are as humans today so small in comparison to other living creatures, that we lost the power to use mantras to create something and destroy anything. moksha included.

perhaps yes
If chanting God's name alone can take one places as far as spirituality is concerned then why cant mantras have so much power
And trolls and copy paste answers are not sufficient to keep Hinduism active on ya thats the same reason that I too ask questions on Hinduism. This is a good service and keep it up
