just get a 30-6 that all you need its extremely powerful and accurate, if you want something more middle of the road get a lever action 30-30

Get yourself an Enfield 303; old military round but will drop anything you want in australia.

get yourself a nice Remington 700, bolt action in whatever calibre you like, this is the best all round sporting rifle, i have mine in 270.

Sporterized .303 Lee Enfield.
It'll drop any animal you want to shoot it at down there and the ammo is cheap enough that you can shoot all you want. It's the one weapon that no one will criticize.
