So why do we still have these somewhat odd patches in the armpits and pubic region? Part of the reason is friction. In the armpits and pubic areas, the hair acts as a lubricant between the two patches of skin that would otherwise rub together uncomfortably. The other reason might be that the hair catches the scent which is produced in these areas. In both the armpit and the pubic area, there are special sweat glands, the apocrine glands, which produce a far more nutrient-rich sweat than is produced elsewhere on the body. This sweat conveys quite a lot of olfactory information about the producer, which makes it attractive to mates. Unfortunately, it also makes these areas great petri dishes; hence the unpleasant body odor that results when you exercise for a long time. (As an aside, showering, then brief exercise, is said to be the best way to make yourself olfactorally attractive to the opposite sex).
Sounds wonderful......NOT!

Body hair (together with the skin and hair on your head) is primarily for shielding the body from the elements and to keep us warm. However, hair under the armpits, in the pubic and anal areas serve a different purpose: it naturally prevents and//or traps odours from perspiration and secretions by limiting skin-to-skin friction and creating a "layer" or space for the perspiration to dry up.

Pheromones! That's why they are found on (biologically) sexually mature people.
That's why I find it strange that most western women remove their pit hair. In 1970's the seminal "Joy of Sex" showed both the man + woman with hairy pits. To me a woman is much sexier with this hair!

we are meant to have hair everywhere-its supposed to keep us warm. People in other countries don't shave their pits like we do cuz they don't care. We're meant to have hairy pits but its not "attractive" so people ask why we have it. Its meant to be there just like the hair on your head, legs, arms, and where the sun don't shine! Get over it.

I'm not sure, but it might have something to do with body warmth?
