If you are feeding dry dog food, try soaking it in luke warm water for about half an hour before you feed him. It could be too dry for him and this could make him heave. Also split his feed, half in the morning and half at night.

Try a food which neither contains grain, dairy food, beef or it's diratives, however any new food must be introduced over a ten day period by mixing the new with the old.

If you explore the Internet you will find that grain in dog food is now questioned and so is beef and dairy. I live in the UK and after trying a raw natural diet I found a conventional dog food which was fish based and contained beet pulp for fibre. My dog loves this.

I have had dogs with digestive problems and I give them a half a level teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda, mixed with Goats Yoghurt. Yes this is dairy which I have said that you should avoid however it is much milder than Cows dairy and easier to digest.

If you decide to use Bicarbonate of Soda you must adjust the amout to suit your dog. I have GSD's.

Probably an imbalance of acid in the stomach, and this can be caused by various things. One thing that often cause this are the rawhide chews. Many dogs chew until they become tired and then they swallow what is left and sometimes that is a bigger piece than they should swallow and then they have a problem to digest it and sometimes cannot, then they start vomiting a yellowish sticky mucus. Take the dog to the vet.

*Make sure he is drinking water, if these are new treats or a new food maybe he is having some sort of reaction to it.
*Has he been in a kennel or near other dogs? It could be kennel cough (it can sound like heaving).
*If he is still heaving when you get home take him to the vet just to be on the safe side.

Furballs would either get pooped out or thrown up. You could take him to the vet to be safe. But have you changed foods? Recently? If so it could be that. are you sure its dry heaving? Not burping?

Please take him to a vet. my dog had acid reflux & I know that it's safe for dogs to take Pepsid AC acid reducer, orig. strength(Famotidine tabs 10mg).(UC Davis Vet hospital) This may help for the mean time. Some vets have payment plans. Good luck my prayers are w/ you.

My dog does that when she has been licking herself a lot (nervous habit) and has fur in her throat. When she does this her poops often have hair in them. That could be a clue for you.
