Do the firmware updates for the PS3 80GB model update the backwards compatability? What are they for?

I do upgrade my PS3 with the firmware updates which come up about 1 time every 2 weeks. But I don't know what they are doing. Someone want to elaborate...

If you are looking for Backwards Compatibility, go to the Playstation Store, and there should be a download available for free which when you download it, you will be able to play PS2 games. The updates that come up do not make your PS3 Backwards Compatible. PS. I think the updates may include more up-to-date stuff that allows more games to be played, but you need to download it from the store first.

K, to get to it (if you haven't already) open the PS Store. Click on view all. Click on O-P. Click on PS2 System Data and download it. Then it should work. :)

Well each time you download a Update Via the net from the playstation 3 console.. it will tell you what the updates are changing once you completely download an install the updates.. if you read the text it defines what the update is for..
or you can go to

In the PS3 section of the near the bottom of the page.. click on the view/get latest update
(which you can also download the update to a disk an install it that way)

which will then take you to this page-

it will say what all the new changes are for in the new Playstation3 system update..
