it is sad ... but some people find it so hard to believe in a God when all these other religions make up stuff ... and than the "evangelists" .. who would want to believe in a God like that ? that's why we have to keep our testimonies and show them that there is a God that is real and loves us and wants whats best for us ...

God Bless

I won't tell you that there isn't a God. I don't think anyone can say for sure. I am going to assume you are referring to the Christianity as it is the most common religious base....

I can only tell you why I don't believe in the Christian God. My main reasons are: belief in Him is fundamentally based on what I see as a flawed book, the Bible. While its basic message of the new testament is mostly about doing good, it's many contradictions and vague passages enable religious leaders to interpret the writings to their own agenda driven by greed, hate, and desire for control over others. I'm not saying all of them do this, but it has happened. Further the Bible has been translated and edited enough times to lose some of it's original intent. Some of the editing may have even introduced inaccuracies that favor the political powers of the time of translation ("King James edition"). Another point I take exception with is the absolute requirement that you believe in Him. I just can't have faith in a God that is so insecure that He punishes those that do not believe in Him, even if you were raised in a place where you could never have access to a Bible or Missionaries. There are those that feel that the Bible was divinely written and is perfect. I can't share that belief. There are more reasons, but these are the highlights.

This is not proof that there isn't a God, just reasons that I don't believe in the God that Christians do. If you can read this and still have faith in your God, good for you. Faith is belief in that which cannot be explained, and to some degree I envy you for that ability.

Come on man, seriously, you knew there was no God when you turned eight years old. It's an old question that anyone over the age of eight knows the answer to.

Remember asking when you where a kid, if there is a God why do people suffer, why is there poverty, and hurricanes, and rape, and murder, why would God allow that. Simple answer, there is no God. There may be a Higher Power, might be a Satan, could be Witchcraft & Magic, but an all loving, all caring, all powerful, happy, peaceful God, you've known that didn't exist since you were a kid.

Because God gives us a choice. God is not Hitler. God doesn't require you to like him or even acknowledge his existence. Consequently, God doesn't feel the need to "prove" himself to me, you, or anyone. Yes, God does intervene from time to time, but his style is almost always to leave room for doubt. In that way, we mortals must decide what to believe, which enables us to grow stronger and to develop a more sincere faith.

Two parting notes: (1) My experience leads me to believe that most people who say they don't believe in God are really just pissed off at him. (2) My references to God in the masculine gender are for linguistic and conceptual reasons. There is no theological or conceptual evidence that suggests that God is biologically male, with the possible exceptions of certain rather bizarre Mormon writings. (Which puts a whole new twist on the chicken and the egg controversy.)

There are alot of people who don't believe in God. It is sad, but true. They are not able to see the miracles that God provides for them everyday, and they have the idea that they are doing it themselves! Satan is doing a good job, but you know what? God is doing a better job.
Church certainly helps, but is not the only way to communicate with him. He comes to your house every single day. I don't go to church for several reasons. One being, they want you to stand up and hug the person next to you. While I am not against hugging, I think it should be saved for people in your life that you know and really do love. God has showed me so many things, that I don;t see how people don't know he is there. The only answer I can come up with is, they are looking, but not seeing. Politcians are the worse offenders of this. All they care about is taking him out of the workplace, schools and are working on taking him off our money. He has been on our money as far back as I can remember, and yes, I would die for him if that is what he wanted.

I have no idea whether or not there is a god.

It really seems like an irrelevent question to me.

Lots of nonbelievers have gotten through depression without meds. It isn't really that much of a miracle. Now if you said that you were an amputee and your leg grew back, I might believe that it is a miracle (or that you are a liar).

some people are inclined to turn away from Him.

In the Vedas of India it is said

"Vishnu bhakta smrta daiva, asurim tad viparyayoh",

translated from sanskrit that means that the Godly people always remember the Lord, but the demons do just the opposite. That or they remember Him but with enmity.

That kinda sums it up for me.

Sounds like you'd rather be living in heaven, where there is no ignorance and everyone is surcharged with love of God. Best thing is to not be too distracted by the choices of others, and to focus on what you want and how to get it.

Getting through depression without medication is a miracle? Wow, I have seen many a miracle if this is an example. There are many reasons people do not believe. I base my beliefs on logical and reason not faith and trust.

I also believe in using spell check for those who are not grammatically inclined.

it is simple once you get the concept down. People are on a daily basis faced with overwhelming proof that God is real. I mean even if they don't believe in the one and only true Christian God, you still have to know that there is something that created all the marvelous in our world and Universe. Well I believe that these people have been hurt by something that deals with God. So they rebel against him by saying that he is not real. think of it as people in a relationship who are in and fight and refuse to speak to one another. this is the same thing. well they should not blame God, but they dumb people who messed up and did not represent God in the way he should have been.

You've got it backwards. Belief in God is very popular. Atheists are *perhaps* 10% of the general US population.

The active atheist community on R&S isn't half as surprising as the droves of theists that stay away. You can change that by agreeing to participate but don't expect the rest of us to be God's cheerleaders with you.
